Let's say you're in the military and you didn't have access to a computer store or didn't want to wait 3-4 days for thermal compound from Newegg, what is something you could use in it's place?

SERIOUSLY. What you need is heat sink compound. It's a common electronics supply item. It's not just used for computers - it's used to heatsink transistors in radios, power supplies, and all kinds of electronic equipment. Wherever you're stationed there must be someone maintaining the electronics and they should have access to some heat sink compound.

It's basically a high temperature silicon paste.
