In and Out Burger

I'd never heard of this place before reading a few posts here on the forum, and I've wanted to try it for a few years now to see if it matched the hype.

Just took a family trip to San Fran and up into SW Oregon and stopped at the Redding I&O Burger...

YUM!!!

The hype was well founded. Best fast food burger I've eaten in my life; as good as any $10 burger I've eaten as well.

Things I noticed:

1) They don't overcook the beef; this really makes the meat taste better.

2) The fries are fantastic. The wife and I are into gourmet cooking, and we were both impressed that the fries are never frozen. In fasct, we saw a worker slicing the potatoes into fries the night we were there. Very impressive. Very unique, fresh, non-greasy taste.

3) The simple business model was impressive: burgers, fries, shakes, soda... very simple menu which appears to keep the focus on making the things they do offer great.

4) Very cheap. We felt like we got a "good deal" compared to other FF joints.

5) Crew was very professional. Unlike most of the incompetance that runs rampant in most FF joints, it felt like the people that worked for I&O may have owned stock in the company and wanted it to do well.

Overall very impressed; tempted to make a trip to the west coast just to try another...

When I ordered a burger... I got a majorly greased up burgers and greased up fries from them...

I went to the In N out burger in Antelope Valley... In between Santa Clarita and Palmdale

wasnt a fan of the fries at first.. but ill admit they have grown on me.
i always get a grilled cheese tho.. who needs meat...
and about the only fast food i can muster.

been a week since my last fix i need to go soooon...

it's like a topping you can order on their burgers and fries...it's like onions, thousand island dressing and cheese...pretty good on burger imo, but i don't like it on the fries...

omg if whataburger is what i remeber it to be... a glorified sonic burger.. then no thanks.
all the ones ive ever been to theres been like super sketchy ppl working.. fries are good tho made fresh to order.

whataburger sucks. I'd take wendys or bk over whataburger anyday.

You need to add MSG and other artificial additives if you want your In N Out fries to taste like other fast food fries, 'cause that's what natural and fresh fries taste like.

Yea, whatever. I've had natural fresh fries I've made myself, and at good restaurants, and they taste better than the nasty, dry, flavorless In n Out fries. Just because they cut the potatoes there doesn't make them good.

I only ate In and Out once and I got the greasy burger and fries as well.
Dick's in Seattle is the shizzle.

Currently living in Southern California, but moving in a month to Seattle.

I will sorely miss my double-double animal style.

EDIT: Regarding Dicks, they don't really compare to In N Out IMHO. Not that Dick's burgers aren't good, but having had both, I feel that In N Out is in a league of its own.

The thing that's really impressive about the Dick's restaurant that I grew up with (in Spokane) was that nobody every wrote any order down or entered it into a computer. The cashiers would handle a half dozen or more simultaneous orders all without taking notes or anything.
