my popeyes meal of the gods: buy 2 of the tuesday 1.49 specials (ie 4 pieces of chicken) and 2 sides of RbR. Take all the pieces of skin from the bottom of the 2 specials and pile on top of the RbR. Then give the chicken to the wife and eat the godly RbR with fried chicken skin sprinkles.

that sounds horribly amazing.

It was an okay movie, but nothing memorable, except the part with the audio cassette training course. That part was funny.

I had idea there was a double-secret hidden menu thingy going on at In-N-Out. I need to read up on this before I go there again. Of course, the closest one is probably at least 1,000 miles away so I guess I have some time.

I wonder how much I could make by opening the first In-N-Out in Ohio ....

this is what InO would compete against, so my guess is a fortune.

There's two Five guys within a few miles of my house and they both suck. I'd rather fly to Cali for some In-n-out goodness. Damn I'm hungry now. :-(

lol.

Actually, White Castle isn't all that common around here either. We have some good local burger places, but when it comes to fast food it is just the normal ones.

here is out it works:

In N Out competes with

McDonalds
Wendys
Burger Kind
Hardees
Jack n The Box
DQ...anyone else in that "fast food" class

In N Out isn't uniquely remarkable, but they are certainly better than their competition: value and quality of product. The burgers aren't simply good, but they are relatively cheap and of higher provenance than the others. That is rather important.

They don't compete with 5 Guys or BurgerMeister or any of those "casual semi-cafeteria joints." It's a different tier of restaurant. I like all of them for their own reasons (well, except for the fast food list...I only really like 1 or 2 of those).

The fries at In N Out are a bit disappointing, but the deal with that place is knowing how to order stuff from the hidden menu. Again, this doesn't suddenly make everything mind-blowingly awesome, but it adds to the service what isn't immediately apparent from their simple menu.

Okay I can see your point on this. I was comparing them to 5 guys or other slightly above typical fast food joints. What secret fries should I order?

In-N-Out is not "pretty crappy." They use only fresh ingredients, nothing frozen, you won't get a better burger at any other chain anywhere IMO.

In-N-Out is OK. Not great...but OK. (but by comparison to other fast food places, probably in the top 5.)

The thing is, the comment about the fries is sooo much more appropriate when applied to In-n-Out versus Five Guys. In-N-Out fries taste like cardboard and you have to order them "animal style" off the secret menu to even make them close to edible.

FG fries are usually amazing (depending on the supplier of the week).

What is "RbR?"

[edit]
Nevermind. Red beans and rice...

Hardees/Carls Jr. thickburgers are much better. Of course, a thickburger by itself is $6 dollars, whereas that is the cost of a meal at in & out. I've started to go to Carls Jr. and just get a thickburger and a water cup, as a 1/3 lb burger is a full meal, and goddamn those burgers are good.

You mean the $6 burgers at Carl's. They need to season them better. No flavor in that meat.

For a fast food burger, In-N-Out is pretty blech.

There are better fast food burger joints. Whataburger in Texas is MUCH better for burgers than In-N-Out will ever be. I like the taste of 5 Guys but dislike the price. For the same price Gourmet Burger as a sit down cafeteria chain style place with better burgers is much better than 5 guys for the price.

If you are looking to try Freebirds and don't like mostly crunchy rice filled burritos then I would advise against it. I've eaten at many Freebirds at various times. For some reason there is always some idiot in the office that likes it and organizes everyone to go there. It's over priced rice and bean burritos. The meat is usually over cooked and dried out and they barely add any of it to the burrito at all. Everything that normally tastes good in a good burrito is "extra" at Freebirds to add and costs extra too. So much for having Free in their name. Much better burrito places in Texas than Freebirds. Don't get me started on crap like Chipotle places either. Some of which have shutdown around here due to loss of business. They just aren't good.
