I know. Only reason I first tried In-N-Out was on my trip to Irvine last year. Although they have them here now in Texas.

Culvert's is also better for the price although not all of them have drive-thrus but the one around here does.

You'd put Culvers above In N Out? Interesting... I've never been to In N Out but we have a lot of Culvers and I like them. If that's the case then I won't really have to bother with In-N-Out

Same with El Pollo Loco. It's such shitty chicken I'm surprised they stay in business.

I've always said Los Pollos Hermanos was far superior.

It's as if they put something highly addictive in the batter before they fry it.

Shens ..... NOTHING competes with White Castle!

After watching Harold & Kumar and eating the frozen white castles, I made the pilgrimage to a WC while I was in NJ.

The only thought in my mind while actually consuming the real thing was "Fucking disgusting" - all I could taste was ketchup and grease.

Bought 6 sliders, we ate 3 between the 3 of us.

Clearly I was not stoned/hungry enough.

Agreed. After moving to this area where they have White Castle, I've tried it a couple times. Always really bad... burgers taste like nothing but onions and fries are ALWAYS old and soggy. Every time.

White castle is gross, and I don't know anybody who likes them if they didn't grow up with them. I think it's some weird psychological attachment from childhood. No normal adult who tried them for the first time as an adult would ever go back.

Checkers > *

I had Checkers in Orlando and mud say it was pretty good for chain food.

I like Checkers. They built one in my town a while back and I'm not sure why I don't eat there more often. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients in a Checkerburger, and it's like $1.49 -- so that's not overpriced. I've had a few where the combination of flavors from the meat and toppings were absolutely perfect, and I've also had a few that where I couldn't really taste the meat.

That's what bugs me about people being judgmental in food threads. They order the wrong thing or they only try it only once and assume that's what it tastes like every single time. There's a lot of variable factors that affect the end flavor. I could buy ingredients and make a sandwich a certain way. I could do it all over again a month later and it won't taste the same at all.

Krystal's is the closest thing we have in my area. Sometimes it's amazing. More often, it's tasteless and I completely regret eating it. The corn pups and chili cheese pups are more consistently good.

Sometimes, I yearn for the good-tasting Krystal burgers and I take a chance. If I order a steamer pack, I have to be prepared for intestinal distress (eat at home, where you can dash to the bathroom if you need to).

Funny, that's how I feel about the In-n-out patties.

KT

In&Out patties aren't the best, but they're far superior to whataburger. Whataburger patties are closer to burgerking's, but they aren't microwaved and the bun & veggies are fresher.

I've never tried Whataburger. Don't really see them around whenever I am in the United States of America.

In n Out patties aren't thick and juicy if your looking for that so I could see why some don't like it. But the combination of cheese, fresh lettuce and tomato, the spread, grilled onions and a perfectly toasted bun.. can't be beat for the price imo.

Is there a Shake Shack overrated thread yet? Cause there should be.

Copy that. There is a beautiful simplicity to the In n Out burger that tastes exactly as it what it purports to be: Meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and thousandesque island (please consume with pink lemonade ffs). Its fresh, never leaves behind a bad taste or feeling. For simple yet different I go to Bobby Flay's burger palace, which also has great ingredients with no post-fast food ill consequences.

I haven't tried the counter, smashburger or shake shack. But boardwalk, habit, five guys, umami left me feeling unhealthy upon departure.

Eh, if that's the case I probably wouldn't like it. Burger should be all about the patty. If you want fresh veggies eat a salad... people put too much shit on their burger.

Whataburger is located mostly in the Southern US, typically in the Texas / Louisiana area. They started in Corpus Christi, TX and didn't really franchise out farther.

They actually opened one in Alabama while I was there, but they closed after like a year.

Love the thin patties, love the toast on the buns, veggies are super fresh. Yep In and Out is awesome. The major chains (bk, mcdonalds, wendys) don't even compare. With burgers I always prefer multiple thin patties over one thick meatball sized burger, though I'm not exactly opposed to that either! Never had hardees, carls jr, whattaburger so I don't know how they compare. Five Guys is a giant ball of grease, Smashburger is pretty good.

White Castle is awesome -- I can eat 10 of em sober, high, drunk - whatever. Great from the freezer too. I'm not saying they are good burgers or even good food... its just something about that place I can't resist... I know its gross but I love it.

They answer is 4x4 + grilled onions + xtoast no LTO

I've never heard LTO (which I generally consider a classic American burger) being called "too much shit"

In and Out hype is over the top.

It's not shit by any means. But, I don't lose my mind like some people do when speaking about In and Out.

Lol ok, I need to get a triple to taste the meat. I promise I will do that next time and report back.

KT

Really you just need to get it without that crappy spread. Don't get animal style, because that just adds even more of the spread. Pretty much you can only taste the spread. Blech...

Onion (prepared how you like, I like it raw), pickle, mustard, no spread. Makes it OK. Not a real fan of InO. It is a good value though, if I was broke I would probably be a big fan.

what, the spread is crucial. I probably killed 5 packets of spread last night between the fries and burger.

fuuuck now I want more InO.

Eh spreads cool but usually I do a 2x1 or 3x1 (not a huge fan of american cheese) mustard/ketchup instead of spread with raw onions.

Anyone who says whataburger has better burgers than in&out has no taste, whatsoever. Whataburger patties are flavorless thin pieces of nothing.

Carls Jr. & Hardees are far better than both, but again, more expensive.

trick with whataburger is getting the whataburger jr and adding on meat. double jr. = better meat to bun ratio than whataburger. you can really taste the meat that way.

now i want whataburger. triple jr., triple cheese, grilled jalapenos, grilled onions...

oh, and you can get them to make you grilled cheeses for your buns. in n' out won't do that.

last couple times i've been to carls jr. nothing has looked appetizing.
