I was at the Bridge Concert at the Shoreline Amphitheater when Heart did an acoustic performance of "The Battle of Evermore." Easily the best performance of the day, which had plenty. It's available on CD on a compilation and is simply brilliant. They did "Stairway" justice as well.

It was an awesome performance of the song, but I agree with you wholeheartedly on this. For a long time, I thought that the reason for so much emotion in the original version is that Plant was writing about someone he had loved. Original - emotion. Heart's version: excellent band, outstanding voice, lacks emotion. (I'm not saying that Heart did a bad job - I'd give them at least a 9.5 out of 10.)

Other than seeing the emotions on Plant's face, I'll bet the youtube video doesn't remotely do justice to what was experienced in the auditorium at that time.
