Desert Combat was amazing... I got hooked.

I wouldn't say it was at all realistic, but it was just plain fresh and fun at the time. Kind of like Counter Strike in it's early days.

I haven't played all summer, but BF2142 interests me far less. I mean, I played Tribes 2 half a decade ago, and this won't be any less buggy, but will have a slower framerate.

DC>>>BF2. Also, it is free if you already have BF 1942. Remember when Day of Defeat, Counter Strike, and Red Orchestra were free? You know, before they were "Sourced" (basically given a facelift and then they started charging for what used to be a free mod).

If an ad adds to the game, I'm all for it. If it's just another chance to EA to whore to a big company'd ad man, I'm underwhelmed.

anyone remember Syndicate Wars? Aside from being a bad-ass game, it was loaded with advertisements, albeit for fake products/movies/shows etc., but it did make the game feel more like a big city. Ads in 2142, hmm, not so much.

They're props until the game goes live. At that point expect to see something bright and out of place in their place.

I am not really interested in 2142 but here?s my 2 cents.

I do think ads seem out of place in a futuristic post disaster war game. I cant actually think of any one that will fit. Perhaps it will be ads for gun and ammunition makers or maybe even Boeing/General Dynamics. The only other option is to make the ads appear old, from the time before the war. A shot up and rusty coke sign hanging at an angle might be cool.

I also think if they put ads in then the game should be a bit cheaper or at the very least have INCREDIBLE tech support and patches. The game isn?t cheaper and we will have to see about the support. Anyone who has played Battlefield 2 knows about crappy patches.

The people that say in-game tailored (spyware) ads are the same movie product placements are wrong. If the movie company came to your house, went through your magazines, mail, and cabinets then placed the products in a movie accordingly it would be the same.

On another note I wonder how long it will take the first hacker to make these ?ads? display porn. If it does happen will E.A. receive lawsuits?
