The Plantation House in Kapalua is pretty good. We like their breakfast/brunch.

Pacific 'O is right in Lahaina, right on the beach.
If you go up to Kapalua, hit Merriman's before sunset for wine hour and then eat at the restaurant, it's an awesome view that's right on the ocean.
Son'z at Swan Court is at the Hyatt in Ka'anapali.
Ferraro's Bar and Restaurant is at the Four Seasons in Wailea

Hmm, I'll have to try that place out when I go in a month. I usually skip breakfast because I'm already out by the pool enjoying morning happy hour.

Forgot to mention, in addition to the food being good, most days you can see humpback whales on the ocean there. Not sure why, but whales tend to like that spot quite a bit.

I've heard dining out in Maui (or Hawaii in general) is ridiculously expensive. Generally speaking, how true is that relative to most vacation beach spots? Like I said we're going to be in a fully furnished condo so it's not a huge deal but I'd definitely like to enjoy the local fare more frequently than dining in.

I wouldn't say ridiculously expensive but definitely more expensive than any mainland city I've been. Entrees tend to be $5-15 more than what you might pay for the same food item on the mainland. Oddly, even though local fish is easy to come by, fish dishes at restaurants are sometimes as expensive as lamb. It varies by the place quite a bit. Plate lunches are fairly cheap. It's more dinner in a semi-nice place where you start to see the difference.

Cafe O'Lei (in Kihei and Wailuku)

Sarento's on the Beach (Kihei). Expensive but fantastic view.

Joe's (Wailea)

Mama's Fish House

Kimo's (Lahaina)

808 Bistro (Kihei)
