Hum, for reasons that are still unknown to me, I still have the last set of PMs I did with Hawkeye back in 5/01 in my profile. In it, he had said:

Reason y I asked in Paramus NJ and west Nyak NY both 15 mins from me PMing is a breeze there.

Does anyone know if these two places are near North Bergen?

He not only posted hot deals, but went out of his ways to help you get it as well. RIP Hawkeye.

I'm pretty sure its confirmed that he was in fact William Cashman, on flight 93 that crashed in shanksville, PA

I checked yesterday and found a link to a thread where hawkeyenj said he served in the 101st airborne, and william cashman on a memorial site said was a paratrooper in the 101st airborne.

Paramus to North Bergen = 13.8 miles
West Nyack to North Bergen = 24.4 miles

Never had the honor of meeting him, but I remember his valuable posts on deals and trying to help others. I remember looking forward to reading his posts.

WOW! This grew too more than what I hoped it would. He gave a lot to this community, and I for one will never forget it. In reality, he is the one that got me hooked on AT. However I am a little disturbed by people trying to solve this mystery. Please don't try to contact his family and friends. This just isn't the day/time to do that. Please give his family some respect. I see that this is a little too late but lets make sure we give him/his family the respect they deserve. He gave a lot to us and lets just appreciate that. God bless him and all the victims of this attack whatever the county they are from, but especially the ones closest to our hearts! Rest in peace HawkeyeNJ you won?t be forgotten.

sad thing is about every other week i remember him.....guess its not sad that i remember him...but its sad that i dont know what happenned to him...me and him exchanged a number of pms and i felt as if he was my best friend on these boards...cuzz he was really the person who helped me out in a few deals via pm

Not sad at all. He is still alive in all of us. Just thinking his name (or moniker if you like) keeps him alive. The sad thing would be if we all forgot who he was.

Just my humble opinion.

i remember him and was thinking about this just receintly, I think he is remembered by everyone as a hero as he and a few others stopped that plane from hitting its target (whatever that was) and i am sure that is how he wants to be remembered as a hero to our country. RIP

I remember he PM'ed me about a Pizza Hut deal and told me the deal is still running when I moaned about it being expired short before 9-11... I hope he's ok, no matter where he is now.

The mystery of Hawkeye needs to solved.

It?s possible that a member of Anandtech has the key to the answer, and doesn?t even know it because they might be unaware of the situation.

Perhaps someone who was into hotdeals, but quit checking this forum when some of the juicy deals dried up, or won the lotto and could afford retail, or just changed focus.

Point being someone may have dealt with Hawkeye and in the course of those dealings has Hawkeye?s address or other helpful info about Hawkeye?s identity in some Private Message.

It appears that all PM?s are archived, so the answer may be in the achieves somewhere.

Keeping in mind privacy concerns, could the moderators of the board send a PM & email to any member who has PM?d with Hawkeye? The message could explain the situation and ask for permission to have the contents of the PMs to be reviewed for any helpful information. The info could then be passed on to a volunteer, or volunteers, who could review and examine the potential leads. Of course there would be guarantees that any personal info would be held confidential.

Maybe there are enough bits of info to solve the enigma.
