Even one of his last acts was a Hot Deal. He gave up his life to prevent terrorists from getting to Washington. I normally love to come to AT and read about stuff that I don't need and can't afford, but with everything that today represents, and getting to hear about how such a great man was taken from us, I'm too bummed to even read the regular hot deal posts. Although I unfortunately never had a chance to personally get to know the gentleman, hes the closest person that I know that was involved in the attacks. May god bless his family and friends.

I only hope that I can be that heroic in this lifetime.

I remember when this occurred... the ISP i work for services part of NJ... and I sent the mods a list of our IP subnets and our email addresses.... neither of which match the information the mods have on record for Hawkeye. Apparently he used a dialup provider for his connections.

anyone know if hawkeye ever dealt on the for sale/trade forums? Maybe someone he made a deal with could shed some light on his name and where he lived. I live here in NJ and would have no problem following up to see if we can't resolve this and put it to rest, and not always having to wonder(that's one of the worst feelings.)

I PMed Hawkeye a number of times, he really loved AnandTech and was a great asset to our forums (as evidenced by all the people here who still remember his great, helpful posts). I doubt that we'll ever get official confirmation whether or not he was William Cashman, but in any case, he is truly missed.

FYI: The names are transposed on the pictures in that article. Cashman (HawkeyeNJ?) is 5th from the left on the bottom row of the top set of pictures.
There is also a memorial site.

sad thing is about every other week i remember him.....guess its not sad that i remember him...but its sad that i dont know what happenned to him...me and him exchanged a number of pms and i felt as if he was my best friend on these boards...cuzz he was really the person who helped me out in a few deals via pm

Rest in Peace, Hawkeye. You have been, and will continue to be missed. Wherever you may be, I wish you well.

The old man was a fantastic contributor and should be remembered regardless of how he left our community, and ultimately, the world.

Although I've never personally interacted with HawkeyeNJ, I saved quite a bit of money through his deals. His humor and helpfulness are missed. I hope he is on a secret mission in Afghanistan rather than what we all fear. Then again, heaven has been made just a bit better. If you are alive, we miss you and wish you the best of luck. Hawkeye helped me get into photography on the Koday DC4800 camera. That camera has caught MANY good memories and times for me. Now....I will never be able to use it without thinking about him. God Bless Hawkeye,

I echo this sentiment. With all of Hawkeye's enthusiasm for this camera, I remember putting together a wonderful deal on the Kodak DC4800. I have captured many priceless photos of my family and friends.

Nope, North Bergen is in Hudson County.
But, Hudson and Bergen counties are adjacent.
And North Bergen sittin almost right on the county line.

thank you all for reminding me of this lost member, although i have only a few posts i had lurked long before and remember NJ too.

it truly is too bad that some closer cannot come of this thread.

he truly is a missed member of the community as told by all the responses. it brings many chills to me just writing this and thinking of someone who we all may have known even if only by screenname.

may god be with him where ever he may be.
