OUCH! That hurts more than I would have guessed.

Hawkeye helped me get into photography on the Koday DC4800 camera. That camera has caught MANY good memories and times for me. Now....I will never be able to use it without thinking about him. God Bless Hawkeye,

Tim Harper

I thought he was the one who posted the DC4800 Staples deal. I too owe owning that great camera to him. I have wonderful pictures of my daughter in the delivery room that I took with that camera.

I owe him a huge thanks for the camera as well. I have a lot of memories thanks to him and that camera.

I've been reading through all of the evidence postings here and I'm convinced he IS one of the heroes from Flight 93.

For such selfless acts, here is a huge THANK YOU.

RIP.

I really think that there is not enough evidence that the person you are talking about is dead.

Just because he lived in NJ, was in the 101st, and did not post any more after 9/11 and that lightly fits into a profile of somebody who really did perish does not make him that person. I am sure there are at least dozens or maybe more of people who served in the 101st, and lived in that area of NJ.

The evidence is pretty circumstantial and not conclusive. First off there is a problem in where this member said he lived and where the person who we know to be dead lived, next there a alot of people who just leave for whatever reason. He could (sadly) really be dead but it does not mean it has to have anything to do with 9/11. Or he could have just left the forums. Maybe he felt he needed a new hobby, etc.

I am NOT trying to disrespect the tone of this thread, but we really can not be sure that this former member of Anandtech is really dead. Unless you hear from the family or a personal friend there is no real way to know without having more info on the member of this forum and the deceased man from the plane...

I hope that I am right and I am sure most of you do as well but if it does turn out that this man is dead from being on the plane or dead from any other cause I pray for him and his family

We should be able to get the Cashman's address somewhere. We can ask the family to turn on the PC and go into AT forum. It should have the user login name showing on the upper right corner. O'course it's not wise to disturb his family at this time.

Second thing is who is this mystery Ratman13 (original post)? He just join this forum on Sept 11 and seems like he already knew HawkeyeNJ before hand. Is he related to him or something?

Finally... no matter who is HawkeyeNJ. He is our "King of the Best Deals". We are going to miss him.

His is saddly missed. I think that something has happened to him to qo from posting all the time the way that he used to do no posts at all after 9/11.

I live about 20-25 miles from seattle, even closer to tacoma.... in a city called auburn, but anyone from out of state would say I live in seattle

Also notice that Cashman would be a woman in the bottom but if you reverse it you realize the woman and man there are a couple(the Petersons caption from above).

So cashman is the man with sunglasses on. Bottom row of the first picture 5th across.

you're a university of rochester alum?

Uh...

I've been the "tragedy du jour" and I've had little trouble dealing with people asking me pertinent, respectful questions about my "incident." It's not disrespectful to contact the family if it's done appropriately. People appreciate kindness and worthwhile thoughts and concern in proper context.

The odds aren't bad that this is him, imho...

I never got to know him, but rest in peace HawkeyeJ. Is there anyway that we can ask the anandtech moderators to release some information about him, so we can track him down.

I hope this helps!
Has anybody tried doing a google search on his logon name?

I remember the WHERE IS HAWEYE THREAD last year and then soon forgot all about it. Now after this thread popped up and I read it and someone mentioned about Hawkeye and the ADS he used to post for us - an awful feeling came into my stomach.

I LOVED THOSE ADS. I never knew what happened to the ads-the posts JUST stopped coming - Hawkeyenj's posts were a direct link to a page on IDEALWIZ.com website and I could never find thoses ads on my own when I went through the homepage of the website. He lead us to everything: the COMPUSA new dew deals, the staples new deals, the best buy new deals- HE GAVE US ACCESS TO THIS GREAT INFORMATION way before the ADS were supposed to be made available to the public. HAWKEYENJ is the MAN!!!

HIS HOT DEAL POSTS WERE UP WITH THE BEST OF THEM!!

THANK YOU HAWKEYE NJ. I CRY FOR YOU :-(

From F*twallet: Northern NJ-Staples $10 off $30 coupon in today's Bergen Record. HawkeyeNJ would have been all over this like white on rice, with all kinds of deals and price matches.

I remember losing a rebate form, and posting a request for a softcopy version. He sent it to me in minutes and PM'ed me to let me know.

Hawkeye always sought out the best possible deal within a store's policy, never cheating the store but also never letting the store cheat him.

The length of these two threads on his whereabouts, this one here and the one a year ago, are a testament to his contribution to this board and the effect that he had on all of us. Hawkeye, we miss you.:frown:

I found something really cool that shows the newer members what an asset Hawkeye was to the forum. You can find it in the Web Archives Here. This shows the amount of time he would spend helping out the new members. He really was incredible to others. I don't think we have a spirit like that here and few of us would have the patience to answer as many questions and to help everyone out like he used to. Whatever happened to him, this forum sure does miss him.

[EDIT] I actually found an old ad post of his too that was a pure example of a HawkeyeNJ post - Linked

Thanks for all that you have done Hawkeye. I still remember those days when I impatiently waited on Thu and Fri to get scans of next week's deals.

Salute to you pal. May God Bless you wherever you are.

Adios

Althought I have not read every post from this thread, I am actually proud that nobody made their "out of line comments" like as seen in other 9/11 threads. In almost every thread there was someone with the "America s*ucks" or "America deserved what they got" remarks. I have not been reading those types of threads just for that reason. I know that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but they could have posted their rude comments in another thread centered around hatred, not the 9/11 rejoice / regroup threads.

Long live a legend!
