I got goosebumps and chills as well.

I remember the thread questioning about where he had gone. And myself being a fellow New Jersey'ian also, his name always stood out. I kind of forgot about it for a while, and was busy with a new job, but I am sad to see that he never returned and has possibly gone to a higher place.

Rest in peace man, you were a great guy.

Also: I noticed in one of those links, the one to flight93.org it mentioned another person, who it appears is a "friend" or was a friend of William Cashman. This person lived in Manalapan, NJ, a town right next door to me. While I do not feel right in contacting anyone of the family, it may be possible to find out from them some information regarding William Cashman, since no one has been able to get in touch with Cashman's family. Again, I do not feel right doing this, so I won't, but for those who have a burning desire to find out, you may look into this. As always please take any approach with the utmost respect for all and realize the suffering others may feel is much worse than any "desire to know" some information.

In either case he will be missed and has been missed from the forums. Whether or not he is alive outside of the forums is not important to me, for he is already "gone" in the manner in which we knew him best.

I have contacted Webley who replied that his name is not Adam, therefore it seems that HawkeyeNJ was posting the reply that he (HawkeyeNJ) received as an answer to Webley's question.

Edit: As noted by Webley below, Adam could be the name of the Staples CSR if it was a chat session. I hadn't thought of that and the punctuation of ":" instead of "," would be more indicative of cutting and pasting a chat session than addressing the person who posed the question. Still, it's inconclusive, but worth keeping in mind.

I c u r in edison I am from Ramsey. Paramus is the hot spot and nearby towns. 5 Staples, 2 Compusas, 1 Office depot, 1 Circut city, 1 Office max,1 Gateway etc etc all 5 minutes from each other. Add another 10 to 15 minutes u get over 10 more stores. I feel sorry for some ofthese people that have to drive over 200 miles for a Staples etc. Only for a short time though because they do not have our friggen TRAFFIC !

Well, William Cashman did go by Bill or Billy. See this article. You'll get a few more matches if you do a Google search for "Billy Cashman" with quotes around it.

I remember him well. His scans were the best. One of the best contributors to the Hot Deals. It is a shame I never personally said thanks to him. If he did die on 9-11, he will be sorely missed and I hope he can RIP. Since I am from NYC, i know the hardache this can cause.

That looks like an online chat with a Staples CSR named Adam to me. Maybe Hawkeye isn't Adam but he was talking to a Staples rep named Adam. Or it could be an email response addressing Hawkeye as Adam as BullishDad suggested. BTW, thanks for finding this BullishDad.

Edit: Having said that, now I can't seem to find how to do an online chat with a Staples CSR on their site. I think I did that in the past though.

i doubt hawkeye is william cashman based on the fact that ramsey is quite far from north bergen (and i live right next to paramus, where he talked alot about all those great stores located there) and the fact that his last post was on the last day of august, not right before 9/11. but to say that he's probably looking at all these posts somewhere and "laughing his ass off" is ridiculous. i remember vaguely that he helped me out on one of the staples deal last year, and from stuffs i've read from him before, i'm sure he's a nice enough guy that if he realizes everyone is so concerned about him he'd post a message stating his whereabouts if he's still here and aware of what's happening in this forum. many things could've happened to him, maybe he'd dead (i'm sure 9/11 wasn't the only day people died in this world), or maybe he moved somewhere and can't go online anymore. if he is dead, rip, if not, hope he's doing ok wherever he is and maybe he'll return someday.

Getting a life sure beats losing a life. I think we need to let the public be aware that HawkeyeNJ stopped posting almost 1/2 month before 9/11, so there may not be any correlation with 9/11. He could've passed on due to cancer or other complications, or he had simply found other interests in life, and don't want to scan ads anymore.

Let's hope the best for him. He's helped me with a couple of good deals.

Now, going to Google Groups and searching on idealwiz, check out the first link. It references an OD sale on a camera and lists the URL to the scan, the email is signed by Bill.

Searching Google Groups on author:bille@nosuchplace.com has about 80 hits in 3 different groups. This guy is all over the place with deals in the newsgroups. Even admits to selling stuff on Ebay and USPS losing stuff.

It appears that the Wayback Machine last archived that particular page in October 2001.

It's my understanding that the ads for the weekend aren't available until the Thursday before which means the ad wouldn't be available for scanning until 9/13/01 at the earliest. If he had the ad for 9/16 why didn't post it here?

I dug through all the hits on Google and found it odd that the Bill Ewiz states he is in Ann Arbor MI, a far cry from NJ. To many other similar things to totally discount Bill E not being involved somewhow.

assuming that he is william cashman, which i seriously doubt, how is his life or anyone lost in 911 more valuable than anyone else who died in a car crash, or of cancer etc..

this sick fascination with 911 "heroes" is getting out of hand. they are just regular people, and did not get bitten by a radioactive spider. it sucks, but they are no more victims than anyone else who got dealt a crappy hand in life.

most people in here are putting more concern into his dissapearance than they would there own grandmothers demise, its just morbid if you ask me. IMHO of course.

I would like to say congrats to FunkMan on finding that info. But, yes, sometimes they could get those ads far in advance, so that's hard to say. I've got another idea. There's an e-mail address there to news@idealwiz.com. Has anyone tried to see if he knows his real name or his whereabouts? I know we're going maybe a little overboard, unsped, but he was very well respected here and it's fun trying to figure this puzzle out. I think it would be great if we could figure it out and put it to rest.
