$15 for burger, fires & shake = too much money!

The one at Santana Row is good, just too damn spendy. Love the variety but just not spectacular for the price.

I like In N Out a lot, never get to eat there though. Gimme a couple 4x4s with fries and I'm happy as a pig in mud (pig being the likely comparison).

Though in the last month I've had lunch at Denny's twice and got the double cheeseburger each time and it's amazing. I though the first time was just a fluke but the second one was even better. Very surprising and unexpected for Denny's.

not expensive for the size and quality you get. a 2/3lb burger with Garlic Aoeli sauce is beyond good. their 1/3lb is bigger anyone else 1/2lb because it's post cooking weight. I had the one pound a time before I knew that was after cooking weight. Most places a 1lb would cook down a good 4-5 ounces. So the extra price is worth it IMHO. The fries are some of the best I've had too. Dipping them in the Garlic Aoeli is heavenly. I've eaten there numerous times, the quality is close to the top, if not the very top. The selection of toppings - forget about it, nobody is coming close. Fathers Office has more beer, but the burgers don't even begin to compare. Same with Apple Pan and [insert name] Best burger in California's at The Counter. Even their Bacon is better than most places. I bet a burger that size + fries + drink will cost as much, if not more at FO and it's not nearly as good. Apple Pan is actually more expensive and not as good.

The Counter even has burgers on big ass English Muffins.

You folks that will never sniff Ray's Hell Burger are really missing out on something special.

However, the best chain burger is from Ted's Montana Grill. Their burgers are up there with some of the best I've had, period.

At that price point I can't think of a better place. If anyone can recommend a better burger place near the Los Angeles area, I'm down to try it.

I  In N Out, but I only do it once a month 'cause fast food is fatty. I  the fresh raw onion they use, it's so distinctive compared to every other fast food burger.

Mmm...In n out.

When I go to In-n-Out, I get a hamburger with extra everything (grilled onions, tomatoes, and lettuce). I usually don't get fries because their fries suck (they only fry the fries once...), but if I do get fries, I get animal style fries (fries, grilled onions, cheese and animal sauce).

Whenever I think about animal sauce, I think about the burger scene in Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle (animal semen?!)

I want to try Five Guys

I recently moved here and discovered that In-N-Out's fries are terrible. I've tried them every-which-way and they always taste like inedible cardboard/paper with a similar texture. Yes, I tried "Animal Style." I'm not a big fan of eating something bad for you just because you covered the nasty flavor up. If I'm going to eat a steak, it better be good enough to not need steak sauce. If I'm going to eat fries, they'd better good on their own.

Their burgers, on the other hand, are pretty good. I dunno what the OP's talking about, but I can point out a few things that make them better than typical fast food joints, like the grease-toasted bun and the sometimes crisp edge of the burger. I've had some Sonic burgers like that, but not like your everyday national chain (McD, BK, Wendy's).

...

When researching their secret menu, I discovered that you can get them "twice-fried." Considering that it's the only chain I know of that does it, your complaint about them NOT doing it confuses me. Regardless, I tried it and they still suck.

If you don't like In-N-Out's fries you just don't like potatoes. They cut them from fresh potatoes right in front of you.

Nope. There are MANY different kinds of potatoes. They pick the NASTIEST kind to have as fries and then they fry them. FWIW, they are Kennebec potatoes, as they proclaim on every burger wrapper. I'm not saying that they are doing something wrong in prep or transport, but that they are a BAD ingredient choice that results in an INFERIOR french fry. There's a reason no one else is rushing to switch to "Kennebec" potatoes, freshly prepared or no.

Yea the fries are not the best at all. I use a lot of ketchup when I eat them cus they are so bland but their burgers are damn good.

They don't fry them right or something. I make ones at home with cut up fresh potatoes and they come out worlds better. I don't hate their fries, but there's something I can't exact put my finger on that's strange. I won't dispute their Burgers are out of this world, but the fries need work.

their fries are ok
their burgers are awesome
keep in mind that the burgers are in-n-out are like a a dollar and a half. burgers at restaurants such as red robin are 9:50ish+tip.

Kennebec potatoes are the culprit.

You're used to McDonalds crispiness. Ask for them well done. It's what I do. If you don't like it as potatoey, then well done rocks.
