it's also pretty hard to get hired by them as I heard.

and the vast majority of their workers are white. i'm not complaining, but they always greet you w/ a smile, and you always see them working their full tails off in their open kitchen. every in&out i've been to is like this, unlike mcd, jackinthebox, carls, etc, where the workers greet your clumsily, don't move around as fast, never smile, and are staffed by minorities (not that i have anything against minorities heh). And ya, i'm being very blunt and truthful. If I offended you, then too bad because the truth hurts eh?

1) Go to in-n-out
2) Order a million burgers to go
3) Put in freezer
4) Open store
5) ...
6) Profit!

If you read their web site, they don't do franchise, it's all family owned.

At my IN-N-Out they all work hard and at least half are minorities... So I have no idea what you're talking about. To me, it seems that immigrants work harder

I've been to many different in-n-outs, and I don't remember the vast majority of the work force being white either.

There one in Encino that ALWAYS has long lines. I've seen as many as 30-40 cars lined u for the drive-thru and they have two windows (think toll booths).

I finally got my taste of In N Out this past June when I visited San Diego. Like 5 total items on the menu... so good. I so wish they had them on the east coast. One of their "family" members should move.

I still remember when I was in Boston for boarding school, i'd have these unsatiable cravings for in-n-out that don't get fulfilled until I come back to LA for vacation. Once, when I was back home, they ran a commercial, simply big block words, "Some college kid out East is dreaming about this right now" and it showed their double double burger, so simple, yet so true. Now that I'm back in LA for school, that is no longer a problem but McDs, BK, Jack in the Box, Wendy's don't even come close to matching In-n-out's burgers. As for the minorities debate, I find them maybe 80-20 split, 80 being causcasian. I think the reason why they seem friendlier and more hard working is that they make something like $9.50/hr as a starting wage. They get paid that much cuz they're working non-stop. As opposed to McDs or other places that seem rather slow paced. That might be why they seem so out of it.
I've been to maybe 10 different in-n-out locations throughout SoCal and not one of them isn't full of people at any time of the day. That's really saying something.

About the minority thing: The one I went to in Ontario was about 60-70% white, one black girl, and the rest Hispanic. They were all busting their ass. I wish we had In-N-Out here.

That is the best part about In N Out besides the food. For the simple-minded and those that don't care or care to know. 5 items on the menu....if you know what you're doing the menu b/c much longer with sh!t load of possibilites.

Yeah it's one of those rare things where less to choose from is a good thing.

Anyone else notice how in-n-out is the only fast food joint that smells really good when you drive by? Kinda like when you drive by a good BBQ resturant and it makes you hungry.

call In N Out as say you want to be a franchisee.

EVERY restaurant that has more than a couple stores is franchised...that's how they make money.

corporations have nothing to do with it. heck most large chains are 80/20 split on franchise vs corporate stores.

wrong spidey. in and out is all family owned which is why they're only in the southwest.

well that's maybe why I haven't ever had any of their juicy burgers!

But you have to admit, it is unusual for a succesful restaurant business to not franchise.

The only real way to find out is to call them.

"hey, I want to franchise your restaurant here in Louisville, KY...how do I apply?"

At that point their either tell you the bug off or apply.

Well Starbucks doesn't franchise either.
