I've always been a Timex kind of guy, but I've become an adult and now want a decent watch that's casual, able to take a beating, leather band and costs less than $70. So all you watchies here, guide me.

Just look around any department store in the cheap watch case and see if anything catches your fancy.

I hate metal bands. They're either too tight or too loose on my arm/wrist.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

I was gonna make a thread like this the other day. I'm also a Timex guy. But I'm looking more for a sports-type watch I doubt anyone could recommend anything though, only I can know what I want. Would like something kinda fancy but will probably just get something at Target - Basically just want something comfortable that looks nice and has a countdown timer on it. Would be nice to have some other cool techie features also though.

BTW, watch enthusiasts are called "watchies"?

I don't really know the techie term for them. I just followed what Trek lovers are called and went from there.

This is the one that's catching my eye Text

I thought you said you've become an adult? That looks very high schoolish. Did you just mean you're over 18 now and you think you're an adult?

Any opinion on this?

Skagen Watch with mesh metal band

I need a new watch but typically avoid metal bands because I have a freakin hairy wrist. Metal bands tend to pull on my hair sometimes and it drives me nuts. Mesh metal bands seem to be the ticket for me and this one has a nice, simple style to it. I'm leaning toward this one but I should go to the store and check it out for myself.

Why's everyone so worried about having to get an "adult" watch? That's a bunch of baloney. Just because I'm an adult doesn't mean I want to where a 2 pound metal watch that is either too tight or slides all around my wrist. It's all about comfort and features.

Get one with a calculator on it. The chicks will be totally impressed with how fast you can calculate their share of the bill and tip.

My friend has had this yellow metal Seiko watch since 1999. He wears it everyday, and has to get it worked on twice in the past 7 years. I think it was like $75-80

I got one a little over a month ago. It is be far the most comfortable watch I've had. It never catches hair, which my old fossil did and caused me to stop wearing it. And the band is adjustable to any size, which is another big plus for me.

I had a similar skagen with the mesh band. It's a little small though so if you have a thinner wrist you might want something bigger.

Fwiw, I have pretty hairy arms and I've never had a problem with my watch pulling the hairs, if you like the style of a metal band, it shouldn't pose a problem.

Why are people so materialistic?

It's a fucking watch.
Tells the damn time.

I personally find it hilarious how big of a deal this is for people.

And yes, i wear a cheapo Timex that cost me something like $50.

(I'm referring to the people in here categorizing them.)

People value things differently. I'm sure there are folks on a watch forum somewhere who would laugh at how much you paid to put the computer in your sig together.

Very true.

I guess what i was trying to say was that i don't get the amount of importance other place on how you look.
I.e., being judged because of what watch you wear or clothers you wear or shoes you have.

But this is another thread/topic, nevermind me. I just hate society in general...

Well for me, it's not the what other people think, but how I feel when I'm wearing the watch. Hell most people have no idea what my father's vacheron constantin is worth, for all they know it might as well be a fossil, but if it feels good to you who cares? If you want to make a personal statement, watches are a terrible idea, because unless it's a rolex most people haven't a clue.
