In need of a socket 775 motherboard.....

I am looking for a replacement motherboard for an older system I put together a few years ago. Currently its a gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3p socket 775 motherboard.. with a intel q9550 cpu and ddr 2 ram.. I need a replacement motherboard that has the same kinda configuration. I have a rosewill rx850-d-b powersupply... 4 gigs of ddr 2 gskill pc2 8500 ram... msi 4870 1 gb video card.. corsair water cooler I forget which one but it does fine for what I need..also have 2 hard drives both sata and a 24x plextor dvd burner sata also.

If anyone can help me find a new motherboard it would be really nice of you. If I could i would just update everything but I've been unemployed for awhile now so I just dont have the money to replace everything.

I'm not sure whether you're asking about a brand-new motherboard or a lovingly used one. If the latter, you should probably ask this in the FS/FT subforum....

If you're looking for a new, never used product, you should specify where in the world you are... it would be pointless for anyone to suggest a Newegg product if you're in New Zealand, for instance.

New or used? Check eBay for a used P45- or G43-based ATX board.
What tests did you perform that would verify a motherboard fault, and not a PSU problem, for example?

There are really no new motherboards which could be considered an upgrade.

Look for a used ASUS P5Q Deluxe (P45) Intel chipset based motherboard or an ASUS P5N-T Deluxe / ASUS Striker II Formula for an nVidia (780i) chipset based motherboard.

The market for 775 boards is limited nowadays. what happened to the old board?

I would take advantage of ebay's guest checkout feature. Stay away from nvidia chipsets. Stick with G/P/X 43/45/48

There is a company called Cuetech that specialize in finding discontinued and hard to find products. They do charge a premium by if you have to have it they are a place you can check out.

See if you can find one of the P45 DDR3 boards like the Asus P5Q3

This board will help extend the life of your Q9550 by pairing it up with modern low-cost DDR3. You should obtain this board and two 4GB sticks of DDR3.
The Q9550 is still good but 4GB of DDR2 is not.

Be careful though. Some of those boards (including the one I linked) don't/can't use higher-density DDR3. They cap at 8GBs of RAM. 1GB DIMMs have to have 8 DRAM chips, and 2GB DIMMs have to have 16 chips. I'm not sure whether this is a P45 chipset limitation, or just a board/BIOS thing.

Use the Crucial.com compatibility checker if you aren't sure or are ordering online. I just went to the local mom'n'pop brick & mortar. I wore sandals so I wouldn't have any trouble counting to 16. The employees there were very helpful.

Thanks, my mistake. You may have prevented some disappointment right there. DIMM density needs to be compatible with the system max.
