I recently built a cheap desktop for gaming. Here are the components:
Phenom II x4 830 + CM Hyper 212+
Corsair Vengeance
1 tb Western Digital Caviar Black
MSI 880g micro atx motherboard
Silverstone Strider 500w power supply
EVGA 9800gtx+
Here's my situation. I'm borrowing the 9800gtx+ from a friend. He's willing to sell it for me for 75 bucks. I was going to buy it, but I saw radeon hd 4890 for 70 buck plus free shipping on newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814103194). While doing some more browsing I found a 5870 for $185 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-ATI-Rad...069?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item1e68912715).
I know the 5870 performs a lot better than the 4890, but I am trying to stay under $150. Which of these cards gives the best value in terms of performance/price? And is a 500 watt power supply enough to power the 4890 or 5870? Other graphics card recommendations are welcomed.
