In need of new speakers

I'm thinking about getting those to replace my crappy 2.1 system I have now.
Are they worth the price?
Is there anything that can shake a stick at them for a lower price?

klipsche tends to make good speakers, logitech also has some good 2.1 systems and in terms of pure sound m-audio tends to be very good (though a bit more expensive for their studio monitors). What are you planning on using the system for (ie mp3's, dvd audio, games...) If you mostly are using it for games or movies then a cheap 5.1 system makes more sense (each speaker wont be as good as the 2.1 but the positional sound in games/movies will probably make up for that).

They have quite a bit of bass, and fairly bright highs. They sound quite a bit like Klipschorns, if you've ever heard any, but obviously on a much smaller scale. Of course, they also cost about $5,000 less than a pair of Klipschorns.

I'm confident you will be more than pleased with the Klipsch 2.1s. They're the best PC speakers for listening to regular stereo music. You might want a set of 5.1s if you game or watch movies. In this case, the Klipsch 5.1s are the best if you can afford them. If not, Logitech's THX Z-5300e's are pretty good and in the same price range as the one's you're considering. They won't sound quite as... expensive as the Klipsch models. These speakers definitely sound more expensive than they are.

StarLancer, I'll give you a big thumbs up on the Klipsch 2.1 system. I've been running them for the past three years, and haven't had a moment that I wanted to swap them out for something else.

I've had an opportunity to check out Logitech (most I've heard have an overly-strong bass presence), Altec Lansing (just don't stand up to the Klipsch), and Cyber Acoustics (again, OK, but can't match up w/ Klipsch).

FWIW I had a Boston Acoustics 2.1 setup b4 the Klipsch. I was quite pleased w/ them. What sets the Klipsch apart are: brighter high end, more guts. I can literally rattle the walls in my office, using the THX theme. If you get the ProMedia 2.1's and can't find the THX theme, PM me w/ your email address and I'll forward it to you.

Another FWIW. Klipsch sells a set of Monster Cables for the ProMedia 2.1. Don't get them expecting a big improvement in sound or volume. Only get them if you want/must have them. If music is your main use, go for it. If gaming is your thing, then a 5.1 system might be more to your liking. I will tell you that when Quake came out I fired it up w/ these speakers, and the hair on the back of my neck stood up.

Don't think of saving $10 and moving down to the GMX A-2.1 system.
