What happens if they have a horrible accident right after the draft?

The date of the draft is set so that's an unavoidable risk

However there doesn't seem any need to trade picks so early, that is an AVOIDABLE risk

i think RG3 will be around for awhile too, maybe give up a little to much for him though. the original offer was 1st and 2nd this year and the 1st next year.

It's just hard for me to believe that Griffin will turn around the franchise in the next 2 years, especially without early draft picks to build a talented supporting cast around him.

they just need a line in front of him now. they have nice running backs and tight ends. maybe one more wide receiver

Well the alternatives were:

Hold the pick and REACH for Tannehill at 6

Pick up Flynn, which would eat big cap space

Pick up a journeyman like Orton...

All of these options give the skins a chance to MAYBE be a bit above mediocre over the next 5 years. Instead they traded hard for RG3, someone who shows all the indications of being a QB who could take a team to that upper echelon of teams.

At first glance the price seems astronomical... but really this year it only cost them their #2 pick... they still have 7 more picks including 2 in Rd4. And then they still have all but that top pick in the next couple drafts.

I applaud the deal... go big or go home.

Lol... the redskins. Overpaying again. Yea, they'll have an unproven quarterback, but now they've crippled their ability again to get fresh new talent for a while. Enjoy your mediocrity Redskins.

I'd be really surprised if RGIII isn't a bust in the NFL though.

Gee. how'd you guess?

I also like RGIII too. He's local to my area, and I've even seen him play in a few high school games. I think he has the chance to be decent, but it's going to be an issue of having the right talent around him. With the redskins overpaying, their ability to do so will be hampered significantly. If RGIII can't perform well, he'll be a bust, no doubt about it.

I don't know that you're saying much... if any drafted player can't perform well they're a bust. You hate the Skins... I completely get that, because thats how I feel about the Cowpies... But if you pause to be objective, I think you'll see this trade makes a TON of sense for the Redskins. And I bet deep down it worries you just a little bit.

they still have enough picks this year to get some more help for him this year.

they also have 40 million in cap space as well. maybe pick up vincent jackson or marques colston and some other pieces through free agency.

They will get a #1 wr no doubt but have Landry and fletcher to resign....

I don't hate the redskins. They're a divisional rival... big deal. From the sounds of it, you're a redskins fan that is failing to be objective. If my team (the Cowboys) gave up three first round picks for an unproven quarterback, I'd be pretty pissed.

A lot of moves have made sense in the past for the Redskins, but as always they overpay and leave significant holes in their team, which is where the mediocrity comes from. I'm not saying the Cowboys are any better in mediocrity, but at least our team isn't crippled in the forseeable future in rookie talent.

Not sure how "crippled" they are for the foreseeable future. They lose 2 first round draft picks in the next 2 years. There are other rounds besides the first round in the NFL draft I think...

Except they aren't giving up 3.....shanny and co are on the hot seat....they knew Peyton wasn't coming....the browns called back and wanted to match the skins....

Am I sold on RG3 eh...do I think he can make a Cam Newton impact....has a good chance if they get a #1WR

Could he a bust....of course everyone has the potential to be a bust....

they're not "giving up" 3 first round picks, they are giving up 2 future first round picks and swapping this year with the rams. essentially they are giving up 2 1's and a 2.

Ok, I read that wrong then. Even then two first rounders is still a hell of a lot to give up. Reminds me of the deal the Cowboys made with the Vikings trading herschel walker. Sure, the first round isn't the whole draft, but teams like the Patriots have arguably stayed successful by making smart moves and trading veterans on their way out for high draft picks. Do you instantly fail by not having first round picks in the forseeable future? No, but it makes it that more difficult.

Besides, I'm not even sold on Cam Newton yet. Quite a few qbs have had surprising rookie years, only to regress for their sophomore year and beyond.

Given the really high value of 1st round picks in this league, I would say they're losing out on a lot.

I highly recommend reviewing the success rate of the Pats draft picks over the last 3-4 years. I think you will be surprised
