Well then, he needs to go back to his own damn country and teach there to help improve and build his own country instead of coming here and totally confusing a hard working student from THIS country who might have his learning impaired by this fool's lack of English skills.

She?
Refer to notfred's last post:

Even if she isn't a native English speaker, that doesn't excuse AOL chat room abbreviations and "sublect".

They are at UC's.

0-99 = Lower Division
100-199 = Upper Division
200 - 299 = Graduate Level

dude it's a foreign TA. you're lucky if you can actually understand them. having them write a comprehendable email is worthy of hall-of-TA enshrinement.

Agreed. Also, count your lucky stars that she even wants to help. I have many a TA horror story to tell...

you'll die in the upcoming civil war that is started in 2005 and lasts for 10 years

Ah yes, the civil war. That's good. I hate the thought of my reading and writing skills becoming impaired.

I think that you'll just have to get used to dealing with people that cannot speak english very well. When you're in college, that's just how it is. I've gotten to be pretty good at understanding people, even when they speak poor english.

After reading the email, sublect could easily be a typo. I don't get the "how r u" part of the email. As for the rest, it's not that bad. Heck, except for the chatroom speak and the "A warm welcome" sentence, there's nothing grammatically wrong with the email at all, beyond the lack of spaces between punctuation marks.

I'm sorry, but if you cannot understand the concepts of CS or any other more technical field because of a TA's English skills, then maybe you shouldn't be taking a technical class. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of TA's are like this since the majority of TA's in CS/Engineering classes are foreign graduate students. Hell, even my own graduate classes only have a few domestic students (counting me).

Yep, every TA in American needs to go back to their damn country and teach there.

I have had several foreign TA's in the majority of my classes (EE). While most of them do not speak perfect english, it is easily understandable. The only thing I hated was the one who used "net speak" in every email, as well as notes on the board. heres some CS for you 2 != to.

When I was in college it never really affected me since I just ignored their dumb asses anyway....it was much easier for me to simply teach myself but a lot of people in my classes (and almost none of them were foreign) couldn't understand a damn word some of these morons said and they truly needed help. As a result a lot of people got screwed paying good money for college courses just to be left with no real options for learning because some of the teaches/TAs belonged in countries where people actually spoke the same damn language. It isn't fair to your average US student to be forced to have to deal with these foreign people in a University in this country unless they speak good and understandable English.

if all the foriegners went back to their respective countries there wouldnt' be any TAs left. Out of all the TAs I have had, only two were domestic. Rest were all foreign.

Well, there is no other option. As said above, most of the TAs/RAs in the technical majors are foreign students. I guess that also means that soon most of the professors will be originally from other countries, too, since it's extremely difficult to recruit a domestic student to study in a PhD program.

That email is better than what I see from most college students. The most confusing part about that message was reading around the "[name removed]".

It's a good way to weed people out. If you want to work in engineering/CS, you should expect to work with people from several different countries.

The sad part is that the foreign TA that wrote that e-mail probably scored better on the verbal portion of the GRE than I did. We have quite a few grad students from China that can't speak a lick of english, but they scored 800 on the verbal portion of the GRE.
