In the hunt for a new Gaming monitor

I'm looking for a new 24, 26 pr 27 inch monitor.

Does it matter in terms of performance the size of a monitor?

Does it matter of the size itself at all?(ex: playing fps games with a 24 vs 27)

Which are high end monitor or mid range of these monitors?

What specs should I be looking for?

Any advice, or comments, thanks.

The size of the monitor matters less than the output resolution you are playing at, however a lower resolution looks better on a smaller monitor. The smaller the monitor the less pixels on the screen.

So in regards to if the size of the monitor effects FPS you need to consider what resolution you would play at using that monitor size.

What resolution and monitor size do you use now?

If you look for a 27inch then you should consider the LG E2750V-PN 27". Its a pretty decent monitor that you can get fairly cheap.

I'm using a Asus 24 inch 60hz led monitor, playing in 1920/1080 resolution, i love it.

Let me understand this a little more, with a 26-27in monitor, will I still be using 1920/1080, or will i(or most people use the optimized settings(highest)?

Which size of monitor are more likely to be seen in the future? 24(which seem perfect for me) or 26+?(seems like their getting bigger and bigger).

All together, i'm looking for a monitor that will last me for the next couple of years(exluding 3d for now). This monitor has to be high performing(fast, quality imaging, no dead pixels etc.). but i'm looking for them at a cheap price, do you know of anymore? or anyone here?

You would still be getting 1920*1080.
23" will be the most common size through the next few years.

I use 1920x1080 on my 60 inch TV. If you got that resolution it shouldn't matter too much about screen size.

You might get some debate over 60hz vs 120hz but i think that is mostly personal preference.

I agree unless you are getting problems with the display in terms of dead pixels or backlight bleeding the one you have now should be fine.

I actually prefer a 24" monitor at minimum. Any smaller and I find myself hunched over closer to the monitor so I can pick out guys in the distance. With a 24" or larger I can game sitting back comfortably.

I'm playing at 1920x1200, and I wouldn't want up my monitor size over 24".

I recently went from 24" to 30" and personally couldn't go back. (gaming/general use).

Why you want to upgrade your monitor, because you will still get the 1920/1080 if you buy new, if you want ips panel or your current one is showing some problems or you want something more bigger, then you can consider a new one.

Is IPS where the tech is going or is IPS just good for viewing angles and touchscreens and has its own inherent disadvantages?

IPS is pretty much better in every way except price. Someone will no doubt tell you TN is the best for gaming because it has low refresh rate, but refresh rate doesn't actually matter at all. I've gamed on TN, P-MVA, and IPS and never noticed refresh rate at any point. I'm not a casual gamer either. What I do notice is the picture looks better on the P-MVA and IPS and less backlight bleeding/better viewing angles.

The colour difference in IPS compared to TN is enormous. Those theoretical graphs translate into big differences in colour on the screen. Whether a monitor badly ghosts is dependent more on the monitor than on the process, as is the input lag.

You can get IPS monitors with good lag, low ghosting and excellent colour. You can't get a TN with all three because it'll never achieve the colour range. The future is likely OLED but until that is here IPS and its derivatives are better, but costly.

Dell U2312hm/U2311h. Excellent all around monitors, should be able to find them at <$200 if you catch a deal (which comes around every couple weeks or so).
