Keep the plate in the car, either in the trunk or under your seat or something. Then when the cop says he pulled you over for no plate, you just say that the bracket broke, and you're in the process of replacing it, AND that you have the plate in the car with you. You have to be nice and polite, and chances are he'll let you go.
ya, the front plate is stored in my car
but 6 tickets were issued while i was parked on a quiet residential ONE-way street. it had to be foot patrol (which ive never seen in the neighborhood), or more likely someone TARGETING my car
