Keep the plate in the car, either in the trunk or under your seat or something. Then when the cop says he pulled you over for no plate, you just say that the bracket broke, and you're in the process of replacing it, AND that you have the plate in the car with you. You have to be nice and polite, and chances are he'll let you go.

ya, the front plate is stored in my car

but 6 tickets were issued while i was parked on a quiet residential ONE-way street. it had to be foot patrol (which ive never seen in the neighborhood), or more likely someone TARGETING my car

Don't know what the CA law is, but not all states require a front plate.

Or, it was the same cop who is checking to see if you have fixed it or not

I believe CA requires it. I know people who have been warned, though I can't think of someone who actually has been ticketed.

edit: actually I don't think I have a front license plate on my car at the moment...

And you still won't put the plate on. I'm sure your neighbors appreciate that you're willingly paying a larger share of taxes.

maybe i zip-tie the front plate back onto the grill, and place a faux-plate on the dash that reads "FK U PGS"?

This is a bold, self-empowering move. I applaud you and hope you have the gumption to go through with it.

The front of many vehicles is much more aesthetically pleasing without one.

You're an idiot.

It's MY honda. *I* care what it looks like to satisfy MY aesthetics.

If I wanted to impress anyone, I would have bought a Mercedes.

was same in TX for me

none of these tickets were moving stops. they were mostly while parked at home. one ticket was even when i was parked at the airport long-term lot!!!

Just do what my friend does and hang the plate on the grille when he parks, & take it off when he leaves.

CA does require front and rear license plates. Front must be mounted somewhere on the bumper and be visible. Putting it on the dash won't work, not to mention extremely dangerous (flying projecticle in a car accident).

And OP, if you're never going to put the plate on, then keep paying the fines and stfu.

You think people would be smart enough to install the front plate after the 1st violation.

You'd think the states would get smart, and quit issuing front tags. It would cut the cost of issuing tags in half :^/

But it would also cut their revenue.

Nah, they'd charge the same amount. When do fees ever drop? :^D

It would be more money for the state though. Every little bit helps.

Last I heard, Wisconsin is considering doing this; charging the same, but only requiring a rear plate. As a WI resident, that is something I would be totally fine with.

If you want to pay $250/year for the privilege of not having a front license plate, that's fine by me.

You'd get the same hassle about it here in California too. The law is the law.

Personally, I'd rather not give cops a reason to pull me over so I have a front plate on my car and my wife's car.

I was able to go 7+ years in Ohio without so much as a warning. I guess living close to the Kentucky border made it hard for the LEO's to single out just the Ohio cars. Now I'm in Georgia and don't have to worry about it.
