I am just saying that people have turned the civil war into a race issue and it was not a race issue. It was a money issue dealing with taxation and governements attempts to control the economy.

The Swastika is a holy symbol in many religions. Just because Hitler and the 3rd Reicht used it as a symbol of hatred and war doesn't mean that it is.

Again, the "bad" use of the flag does not mean it should be construed as evil simply because some morons used it as such.

Use of the Confederate Flag today has no racial presence in my mind. It is simply a way of remembering what the South is all about. If another country were to adopt the US Flag and began killing a certain religion or race, would we then ban our own flag simply because it has a bad reputation now? I doubt that very seriously.

yes, actually, on vacation a couple years ago, driving through Alabama, I saw the biggest-ass Confederate flag on a 150-300 (I couldn't see well) foot flag pole. kind of surprised me, but after awhile of driving through Alabama, nothing shocks you too much anymore (like, comeon, who really builds a rooster out of car bumpers in their front yard by the highway...?)

the confederate flag is a symbol of states rights. sure, it has become a kind of stereotypical ignorant, redneck, racist thing because of what is portrayed of people who live in "the south". and sure, most of the people who fly it may very well be ignorant, racist, rednecks...but that gives no right to call it anti-american, or that it needs to be banned. the people who fly this "anti-american" flag are some of the most patriotic men and women you will find in this country. i think that maybe it is just a pride thing since the people down here are so looked down upon.

and about it being racist. i have seen the confederate flag in the black community more than in the white community where i live (central louisiana). this seconds my opinion of it being just a pride thing. there is a lil john video in which he has the confederate flag many times. rap cd's have the confederate flag on the cover.

the war wasnt about slavery, it was about the southern states wanting to leave the union because other states did not agree with the things they were doing. yeah, slavery has to be one of the most in-humane things around, but these states wanted that, and if they wanted to leave the union, they should have been able to.

so the flag itself stands for nothing more than rights, pride, and heritage. say what you want about the people that fly it, but dont make extreme claims such as that its anti-american, or that it should be banned.

I think the meaning of the Confederate flag varies, depending on context. For many in the south, it truly is heritage/history/culture. For many in the midwest (the seat of the KKK, BTW) it is racist. For truckers and bikers, it is simply a symbol of being a rebel. For people on the coasts, it's a symbol for rednecks.

Me, I think it looks cool, but since there are so many interpretations for what it means, I wouldn't dare fly it.
