I can't order mine until next saturday but I hope they're not all sold out...I guess my E6400 @3.2Ghz isn't bad, but I see the benefit of a quad core cpu in the future.

I don't trust stores that arbitrarily make up retail prices and then say X% savings. It implies they are loose with other things as well - like return policies and customer service.

Swtethan - I wonder if prices will actually stay at $266 for any length of time on 7/22...there seems to be a lot of interest in picking up a Q6600 here.

cmdrdredd - If I could afford to do a system upgrade I'd pick one up too...but since I'm stuck with a 754, DDR-based system, getting a Q6600 would mean a new MB and new RAM to go along with it.

BTW, what are the odds that $295 processor is a G0 stepping ? not likely I would say

when are G0's supposed to be out?

and.....why would you want G0 when you can have this now (3.2ghz?)

I already have 2 B3's that I paid $300, one at 3.1, one at 3.2.... Everyone said I was crazy for not waiting. G0's are SUPPOSED to run a little cooler, and clock a little higher. Like maybe 3.5 on the same settings I have, but we will see after a few hundred people OC them, not 2 reviewers.

Edit: To answer your questions, they are supposed to be available on the 22nd, but I am sure people will clean out the old stock first. That may take a while.

well, that's if you're sane. i built my system 7 months ago and another 3 months before that and i just got a Q6600 B3 for $300 like Mark, and I'm building 2 new systems (1 Q6600 G0, 1 Yorkfield quad-core) in the next 6 months or so. And I make barely make any money...

EDIT: I crunch, edit, 3D-render, and multi-task to hell.

well, I didn't just build my system, but I did upgrade it with a 7600 gt and fx55 in dec. In all fairness, the 7600 gt replaced a 6600 gt that blew its cooling fan. Then I bought an opteron 180 6 in june... that's, what, $500 in the past 7 mos? FS/FT makes it much easier to upgrade, however. I sold my 7600 gt and replaced it with an x1950xt for $90 total out of pocket. Hopefully I'll get good $$ for the fx55 and the mobo and gpu that are with it so I won't feel so guilty about upgrading again.

They probably had it at 598 not too long ago. Remember, those processors were $865 six months ago, then they were cut to $500+ in april.

Did anybody notice that they showed the upc code in the pictures? SL9UM, packaged 1/4/07 so we know it's a b3. I wish they would just list the stepping the in the item description.

Newegg flipped the switch on the Q6600s, but no sign of the Q6700 chip there just yet. Since we've seen those for ~$350 at ... ahem ... less than Newegg-reputable resellers, I'm very curious to see how that pricing shakes out.

I wonder if the Q6700's will just be locked QX6700 B3 chips, or if they will all be G0...hmmm...

So the price of Q6600 will be eventually on the 22nd $266 or $299? I noticed that the price posted in an article at Anandtech is $266.

$266 is what Intel sells them for, you are buying them through a retailer, who typically gets them from a distributor ... so a couple of markups pushes the price a bit. Newegg's price reflects just under a 13% markup, so it seems quite reasonable.

So, that means $299 is the reasonable retail price we, the general public, will pay for, doesn't it? The price at Newegg will not go lower for time being, won't it?

Thanks.

They're sold for $266 in bulk, probably for a 1000. All we can do is wait for the 22nd and see what happens.

Considering the free shipping they are currently running, I would not expect to find a lower take home price from anybody reputable.

they are running free shipping b/c they want people to jump on it now in the mistaken impression that it won't go any lower. I think that it will get much closer to 266 on newegg. hopefully they will sell out of the b3 chips by monday and start selling G0...
