I'm remodeling my three season room and want to put some speakers in the walls attached to a docking station for my ipod. I'm not sure exactly what I need to be looking for to accomplish this so I was hoping that somebody here had some experience and could give me some pointers.

I know that I'll need some kind of power for the speakers and the ipod dock could be as simple as an aux port or a real ipod dock that charges the ipod. Having radio would be nice as well, but not a must.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The power for the speakers, the radio, and the ipod connection will be from the same thing: a receiver. That's a few hundred bucks. Then you need speakers. For good sound from in-walls, ideally you want speakers with built-in enclosures. But you can get them at almost any price range... So how much *do* you want to spend? And how big is your room?

Two of these for $120 are a good reasonable choice... Or two of these for $300. Both have enclosures.

Hrm. I hadn't really given cost a thought yet, I wanted to see what my options were first.

The room is 12 x 11. It's insulated but not heated, so I was thinking I don't want to keep the reciever in the room. Instead I would like it in the basement, which is just a quick drill hole away. Is there a way to control the on / off and volume remotly like that via in wall controls instead of a remote? Maybe even have an ir plate in the wall that would allow a remote to be used.

Anyway, I'm pretty clueless as to how this is all supposed to work. Thanks for giving me some options to look at.

and this...

Leave the amp in the wall turned up about 3/4 of the way...

Plug in a Ipod dock/stand into the back of the amp and fish the cable out of the wall. You might have to buy a headphone extension cable depending on how far away you want the ipod from the amp. This would sound good. Tho I have not heard the speakers but I'm sure it would sound decent.

A good way to go for about 100 bucks tho, no radio.

Edit:

you could also, run switch to a switched outlet to turn it on or off if desired.

Get something like that... That way you can control it with the remote instead of having to get up walk over to the wall to switch songs or adjust the volume.

There is, but that setup might cost more than the receiver itself. Also, you have to be careful to make sure the wiring's up to code...

possible parts: IR repeater (in-wall), receiver (central unit), receiver power supply and flasher. also connecting wire, of course

But why not keep the thing where it's unheated? These aren't vacuum tubes, you know. You want to keep everything cool.
