In what scenario would a Titan Graphics card be worthwhile?

Is there any scenario where a Titan can actually be a better pick than a 780 Ti for a gaming PC?

The only scenario I can imagine where the 6GB memory might have an advantage over the 3GB in the Gtx 780 Ti is with ultra HD 4k resolutions or Nvidia 3D surround. But a single Titan doesn't have enough power to handle such resolutions, so you need two. If you're already going the SLI route, would it not be better to get 3x 780 Tis for the same price and even better performance?

The only scenario I could think of is if you are filling every PCI-E slot with Titans for ultra hd gaming, which is extremely niche even for high end custom PCs. Anyone agree or disagree?

If you need more RAM than a 780ti, then an R9 290x is the better choice. Titan is perfectly obsolete for gaming.

If Jen-Hsung Huang held your family hostage with his massive arms and the only way to free them were to purchase a GTX Titan, then it would be a worthwhile purchase.

In my case I got 10% off normal retail (of the time), plus four new release AAA games. That's the only reason I got it.

Now the only real reason is if you need good DP performance without shelling out for an even more expensive professional card.

Nope, no point for gaming. It's a cheap development platform if you're working on HPC Tesla applications though thanks to uncrippled DP.

*less crippled. It still isn't near pro level.

No, Titan has fully functional DP performance. The main missing features are pro-level OpenGL drivers, and ECC memory support. NVidia specifically market it towards Tesla developers (trust me).

Titan is best used as an entry-level compute card. For gaming, there is no incentive to buy one over a GTX 780 Ti.

Wait... what about e-peen? We all know thats worth a LOT to quite a few people online.

Seriously though, even benchmarks at 4k don't really demonstrate an advantage for the Titan vs 780ti, so, you're better off going 780 for gaming. The Titan is the way to go for DP or development. It has advantages, but not for you and me.
