inaccessible folder

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone have any idea how to fix this or if this is a lost cause.

I have a folder on a server. Someone went in there and removed privileges from everyong to includes the server admin and himself. Now all the files and subfolders in there are inaccessible. The server admin can't get in there either, even after he tried to take ownership of the folder. Is there any solution or is this it? It is in a MS Windows environment.

Is the server admin logged on a local account? If so, he should be able to take ownership. Do you have access to the physical drive? Try removing it and putting it in a computer and taking ownership/adding permissions there.

Initially we were unable to view the folder. The admin was able to take ownership of the parent folder, but everything in that folder is inaccessible. I wish I have access to the hard drive too, but I don't think that is possible. It is a large server, probably raided. Unfortunately I don't work in that department. Wish my IT guys were more competent.

What HermDogg said should not work because you do not have ownership so the OS won't allow you to do any type of operation on it. Try this to hijack the ownership of the folder and its contents:

1. Right-click on the folder and select "Properties"
2. Select the "Security" tab
3. Click the "Advanced" button
4. Click the "Owner" tab
5. Under the "Change owner to:" textbox select the account you wish to change ownership to
6. Check the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" checkbox
7. Hit "OK"

That should hijack the files.

Anothering thing you can do is:

Under the security tab click the add button under "Group or user names:" textbox and then add the account "Everyone" and give them full control.
