I just put my 8.4 HD in a Fic AZ11 mobo with a Duron 700. And I get the error message "INACESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE" at startup. Anyone have any ideas how to get rid of this problem. I tried booting in Safe mode but that did not work. I Disabled the virus detection in the CMOS settings but no luck. Any clues? I know the hard drive is okay because in my older Cyrix II 300 it boots fine and I can use the system.

So you have Win2K installed on another drive? You have this drive set as slave after the master on the primary IDE? Master on the secondary IDE? Slave on secondary? or is it a Master on the primary IDE? If so then what is the drive you have Win2K loaded on set to and where is it located (primary or secondary, master or slave).
On the Cyrix system what OS are you using?
Is Win2K somehow loaded on this drive that you can't see? (I guess I'm a bit confused)

Try getting a low level format program. Or a program that will write all 0's to the HD. I have heard writing all 0's awakens a HD sometimes. You might also run a scandisk and if the first few clusters are bad then the FAT tables are no good thus making the drive no good. If this is the case you might be able to repartition the drive and take out the first part of the drive but I dunno. hehe I dunno even know if this is close to what you are talkin about.

I had this same problem on an ASUS CUBX. I`ve always had problems with the ATA66 on board controllers, so in the boot order in the bios, I had disabled the controller. 1st was fdd, 2nd was disabled(ATA66), then 3rd main hdd. When I changed the ATA66 to auto, the Win2k problem went away. Don`t know if this applies to your board, but it sure solved my problem.

That might be the answer but now its to late. I used the W2k boot disks to reformat the drive and reinstalled W2k. It booted fine after that and I was on my way.

It is probably an issue with the boot.ini file in the system partition of the hard drive (Winodws NT and 2000 only). The boot.ini tells the computer where the OS files are located on the hard drive. It has to be set to the correct drive 0,1,2... and the correct partition on that drive 0,1,2... If it isnt correct then the computer doesnt know where to load the OS from.
