Inadequate cooling from Freezer 7 Pro?

Here's the deal, checked with coretemp and my 3ghz Q6600 (1.325vid) is idling at temps ranging from low to high 40s depending on the core (being cooled by a Freezer 7) with ambient temps at around 32-34°C. Just yesterday I replaced the thermal paste with the noctua nt-h1 in the hopes of reducing the temps but there's little difference. Now, I'm wondering if the Freezer 7 can't handle cooling the Q6600 anymore. Btw, I have 5 case fans, 3 intake and 2 exhaust in my Antec 300 so air flow isn't much of a problem. Should I just spend to replace the aging Freezer 7 or should I be expecting these temps considering my ambient temps are quite high since I live in a tropical country? Thanks!

ambients 32-34? I'd say your idle temps are really good. What are the load temps?

Maybe you can adjust the fan speed in the BIOS to bump your temps down a bit if you are uncomfortable with them. I have 2 of those HSF and have no problems with them. I am pretty sure I would need a couple heat sinks if I was gaming in 30's C.

The fan speed is already set at its maximum (2500 rpm). Should I pull the trigger and get a new cooler? I was looking at the CM hyper 212 plus 'cause of the good reviews.

What are you hoping to gain with lower temperatures? If all you want is that warm (or cool) fuzzy feeling, then if all it takes is a $30 CPU cooler to make you feel good, then go for it. If you were hoping for some real world "improvements" of some sort that lower temperatures will give you, then unless you were going for broke on your overclock, you'll gain $30 worth of nothing.

I have the same setup....though my AC7 is inside a wind tunnel. I wouldnt be worried about idle temps, its the load temps you have to watch. Anything under 70c is good to go in my opinion....besides which 35 idle, I wouldnt expect more than 50 at load on that which for tropical country is great!

This thing worries me, the hottest core reaches 70c on around 90~95% load while playing GTA IV. On video encoding which I do quite often, it even reaches highs of 75c. Is this still safe? If not, what's a good cooler priced below $40 that could reduce temps?

A Freezer 7 Pro can handle a Q6600 easily, even overclocked. When I had my old G0 Q6600 at 3.4GHz under a freezer 7 pro, my temps never got above mid 60's C IIRC. Make sure you have a good mount, ditch the push pins, replace them with a backplate if you haven't already and make sure the fins are clean and dust free.

With good airflow, my Freezer 7 pro was within a few degrees of my brother's TRUE with twin fans so yeah, they can cool well if used properly.
