Remember what the state of Texas government actually cares about. The poor little gun manufacturers that can't get loans since their product kills kids by the thousands.

As a consultant I do business with government all the time and these types of things are very common in Southern states. Other ones I've seen are requiring contractors to sign an affidavit saying they don't do business with any other firms that boycott Israel. Another one I've seen is having to report whether our company health insurance covers abortions. None of these requirements have anything to do with the type of consulting services I provide.

Nothing to be done in the only country this shit happens in.

The ONLY thing America is exceptional in is the bat shit number of guns we have floating around this country and the ease of acquiring them.

Big time.... I'm no "smooth-criminal" myself (rotfl obviously!) but I do know where to go to obtain an illegal gun w/wiped serial numbers if I wanted one AND right here in New Haven. (Note that I have zero desire to own a gun although I do know how to shoot one)

I estimate it would take at most a few hours to get it done.... hardest part would most likely be convincing the crack-dealers over in "the hood" that my old, bald white a$$ really isn't a cop!

It is hard to argue that semi-auto firearms (especially long guns) that accept high capacity magazines aren't a major problem. There is a solid argument that these should be NFA'd. Anybody who doesn't want to file the forms can sell back to the government at a premium.

"We felt like cowards"

With damn good reason!

Exactly. An off duty Border guard getting a haircut was perfectly aware of the dangers as well, he just wasn't a coward. He had zero armor and no cover, took down the shooter with the barbers shotgun and determined aggression.

Didn't they have shields? They could have broken through the door, several of them rush in holding shields in front of them and taken out the guy. There may have been some injuries to the cops but they had body armor, and I heard shields. What more of a plan could they want? Just total wusses to loiter there with their thumbs up their asses while he murdered those kids. They are trained to go straight after perp assassins, at least in California. First guy that gets there, go straight in, period. Texas has been defrocked. All that exceptionalism and bravado? It's clearly bullshit all in all.
The "manly" Texan persona has always been a cover for their feelings of fear and inadequatcy.

The level of purely performative masculinity on display down here is really something else. I've never seen the like and I spent a lot of time in and around the more rural parts of the midwest.

Well golly gee Forrest, I’ll just sell all my guns so I can be safer then…

I’m really touched how everyone here is so concerned with my safety.

All? Exactly how many guns do you have?

And why? You can only fire one at a time.

So why does the internet increase mass shootings but not other crime?

Actually seems as if the advent of the internet has contributed to a shift from violent to non-violent crime. That's just my own impression as to the causality of it.

But seems as if it has turned criminals into couch-potatoes just as it has the rest of us. Destructive hacking replaces physical vandalism, internet fraud replaces muggings, drug-dealing moves from the streets to on-line.

It all gets less violent and crims get more physically-inactive and fatter along with the rest of us.

quotes from WaPo article on how Texas police routinely lie:
The erroneous early accounts invariably cast official actions in a more flattering light than the corrections.
And earlier this year, the Tribune and ProPublica documented how the state’s Operation Lone Star, Gov. Greg Abbott’s initiative to stop illegal immigration and drug trafficking at the border, padded the numbers used to tout the project’s success.
The inaccuracies stemming from Uvalde massacre, says Watkins, provide a “sample of what the experience of being a journalist in Texas is right now.”
In a Friday afternoon news conference, Abbott was asked whether the inaccurate information that he spread was part of an effort to craft a “favorable narrative.” No, he said; he’d been “misled.”
No doubt about it, Texas republicans will lie, cheat, and steal to make themselves look better. They certainly did not give a single care to what was happening to a bunch of Latino kids.

But good news, no Texas police officers were injured!
first saw this from roger wilco's previous post:
In Texas, the priorities are clear.

This incident goes well beyond any "lack of Police-training" or "poor leadership" type excuses and well into "wtf kind of trash HUMAN-BEING stands around while kids die?" territory.

If I were the person responsible for this outcome I'd be sorely tempted to put one my precious guns right into my own mouth and eat a bullet.
