Vehicles, myriad substances we burn, alcohol, etc.
And mitigations have been made to prevent as many as possible.

- seat belts, mandatory car seats, backup cams, as well as a shitload of safety requirements
- you can hardly find any places at all that allow smoking indoors anymore, or even close to the entrance to a building
- age limit of drinking is 21 years old
etc...

But hey, let's not do anything about guns because muh freedoms.

Great. The new talking point by gun nutters is people die other ways, so solve those first before touching our guns. Asshats 🤬🤬🤬

Im no gun nutter, but if we don’t drastically cut down our emissions, everybody is going to be dead regardless.

don’t worry bruh, banning abortions shouldn’t result in more people creating emissions because guns will take care of that problem 😒

Mother Nature will clean up the earth and cleanse the scourge called humanity. Yes yes, it won’t be in our lifetime.

There is a certain kind of nihilism involved here.

Children die every day from climate change driven events.

Why aren’t we just as outraged about that, especially considering we are all contributing to it?

Replace firearm with voting, how fast would it fly? R's have been screaming for shit like voting licenses and voting fingerprinting etc. Restrictions on Constitutional rights tend to flail around a while before dying on the vine the next time something important happens.
Let me know the last time voting directly killed 19 kids. Seriously, WTF is wrong with gun nutters?

Even still, there are more restrictions on voting in most of the country than on gun purchasing/carrying.

I’m very pro gun control. Don’t own one myself. I absolutely think we need action, now.

But why are we so fucking outraged about this when we all actively contribute to the mass death of children.

"In first place on the rankings, the US has released more than 509GtCO2 since 1850 and is responsible for the largest share of historical emissions, Carbon Brief analysis shows, with some 20% of the global total."

"WHO also estimated that climate change will cause around 250,000 additional deaths per year between 2030 and 2050 — 38,000 from heat exposure in the elderly, 48,000 from diarrhea, 60,000 from malaria and 95,000 from childhood undernutrition."

"The Children’s Climate Risk Index (CCRI) reveals:

  • 240 million children are highly exposed to coastal flooding;
  • 330 million children are highly exposed to riverine flooding;
  • 400 million children are highly exposed to cyclones;
  • 600 million children are highly exposed to vector borne diseases;
  • 815 million children are highly exposed to lead pollution;
  • 820 million children are highly exposed to heatwaves;
  • 920 million children are highly exposed to water scarcity;
  • 1 billion children are are highly exposed to exceedingly high levels of air pollution"

Pretty far out there. What's changed in guns since the constitution? bigger faster better killing machines can now mow dozens down at a time.

What's changed in voting? Oh yea, women and minorities can vote now, not just white land owners.

And you're right, voting is scarier to R's than guns are, but because of money and power, that's it.

The sheer amount of performance involved in the "gun debate" is part and parcel of why NOTHING happens. Either come up with actual policies that will make a difference and are remotely possible to get passed, or it's just performance theatre using dead people as props.

This is the United States, no one expects anything to get done. On any subject. Let alone on a constitutional right to die by bullets.
Once that is understood, even raising the subject is performative in nature - but it's all we can do not to use those same bullets to enact change.

So will Alito's argument for keeping assault rifles be similar to his insane reasoning to prohibit abortions. Not enough babies for all the wanted adoptions. Not enough bodies for target practice.

We are quite capable of being outraged at more than one thing at a time. There is plenty of outrage on climate issues as well.
It is just that climate change is a large and wide field to be outraged at, so it is more diffuse because the issues we have to tackle are many and varied on that front.

If by “we” you are talking about America, I would contend that a large portion of our population is incapable of focusing on more than one crisis at a time.

A large portion of our population thinks there is a massive cabal of cannibalistic pedophile satanists that traffic children via wayfair and the basements of buildings that have no basements all so they can drink their blood to stay young. Oh, and that huge #s of said cabal have already been tried/executed by military tribunals ... all while JFK Jr is still alive and is coming back "soon" to save us all.

You've described some of my wonderful acquaintances, one of which is a meteorologist.

Oh, same. Had one interesting ongoing interaction from summer '20 through election aftermath that weaved in all of 5g/Matthew Broderick/blockchain/watermarked ballots. What was funny is that this person can only remember which side is left/right (not politically speaking) by holding up their left hand and making the L shape with their thumb and index. So yeah, real rhodes scholar types. Oh, and she's a teacher ...

I'm personally fine with further restrictions, but seemingly nobody else is. Just feels like tilting at windmills, in the US at least.

Ironically voting did exactly that, by voting in people that refuse to go for gun control.

This is the system we the people built.

Catching up on these developments, and holy !@#$. These people....
It's like a Libertarian dream of every man for himself. No accountability, no cooperation. Just anarchy, lies, and back stabbing. The complete opposite of duty, honor, and service. Of community and brotherhood. Instead, Texas appears to foster corruption and the worst of mankind's behaviors. Sort of like Russia.
Those people or the voters who elected the Republican town and Republican state? What does that say about them?
