People steal the weirdest stuff.

I remember at one point people were stealing laundry detergent and there was actually an underground black market for it. But that actually makes more sense than stealing blinds, since chances are it was used for making some kind of drug or something. Nothing like a bit of blue liquid tide in your meth.

Not exactly. If you're making drugs you're making enough money to buy the ingredients if they're just off the shelf stuff. Tide for some inexplicable reason was used in the drug trade as trade bait. Rather than stealing money to buy drugs the thieves stole Tide and then traded it for drugs in a barter economy.
And the dealers accepted it because they were paying like 25 cents on the dollar for it. A big bottle of Tide was worth like $20 in a supermarket. The dealers would trade like $5 of drugs for a $20 bottle of Tide, then resell the Tide for a profit so that they were making even more money than the face value of the drugs.
