incorrect amout of ram being reported

i had 192 meg of ram.. one stick of 64 meg and one 128...
i took out the 64 and replaced it with a 128..
its still reporting 192...
yes the new stick works.. i tested it in my other comp..
both sticks are running at 133mhz..
any advice on how to fix that report in the properties on the my computer icon?

This sounds like a situation where you've got high-density RAM on a motherboard that isn't compatible with it. What motherboard do you have?

i cant really tell. i know its an AGP but i cant see anything else on the board that tells me the model number..
its running an 800 mhz celeron..

I think the problem is what I posted above, then. Many Celeron II systems use the i810 or i810E chipset and will show those symptoms when given high-density RAM. PC100 is what it's hungry for (the i810 and i810E chipsets always run the memory at 100MHz no matter what CPU they're given, incidentally).

D/L and run Belar advisor. It'll show what chipset you've got Link to Belarc Homepage

Pull out your original stick of ram, get the #'s off it and go to the Crucial ram site. They'll tell what you need/got.

Not just PC100, but LOW density PC100. I found out the hard way that PC100 comes in a high density flavor as well. :Q
