Increase range and reception of WIFI

hey guys thanks for reading.

My friend and I are trying to share dsl together. He lives 2 houses down.
I bought an Airlink Mimo wireless card and i can get reception, but its only 1 bar and sometimes due to interferences, i get dropped.

I've tried the hawking 15db high gain corner antenna. I got an instant 2-3 extra bar, very good reception, but it doesnt seem to be compatible with my mimo card because even though its connected and shows good signal, the connection is not going through, and i am not getting any data transfer. Packets are sent, but none are recieved.

My question is, is there anyway to increase my reception to maybe get an extra 1-2 bar?
should i just get a regular card and use that high gain antenna or is MIMO better? Is there a wireless repeater that i can just plug in the wall downstars by the windows somehow and increases the signal up to my room upstairs (which is where the computer is at)?

Adding a better Antenna on the receiving side is not very effective.

It is much better to add a directional Antenna on the Transmitting side. Mimo right Now is a problem since it has special Antenna arrangement.

Buy an 802.11g Router that can be fitted with Directional External Antenna. Plug it as an Access point to one of the Mimo regular ports and point the antenna to the second site.

Are you sure that this is legal? There are certain stipulations that say you can't share wireless.

A directional home-made can antenna at the transmitting AND receiving end should help. You may want to purchase a repeater like D-Link DWL-G710 and put the directional antenna outside the house so that it is within the line of sight.

Sharing wireless is perfecly legal, its sharing the DSL or Cable that isnt

They've had consumer priced bridging products for years and years. Almost since the beginning of SOHO 802.11b product lines. I believe the WAP11 could bridge out of the box. Might have been a revision or two after the first but it has always been a fairly common functionality of budget AP's.
