In this case it would go:
1) carrier
if don't care (1) then 2) form factor/feel/build
if don't care (2) then 3) specs/features/capabilities

I make specs the third tier here because they're more alike than they are different.

Either one is good. You'll be waiting longer for the EVO, but it's got a bigger screen, 4G capability, a front-facing camera, and Sprint is cheaper. The network isn't as good but you can still do data roaming onto the Verizon network for free.

The Incredible should be available much sooner. It has an AMOLED screen and the better Verizon network.

I'd go for the EVO myself, speaking as a current (satisfied) Sprint customer. I haven't run into a situation where I wish I was on Verizon (except that I'd rather have a Droid than a Samsung Moment). Sprint's plans cost less and you get more.

-Bigger screen. Not only more viewing area for web browsing and whatnot, but the larger screen makes for a bigger on screen keyboard - MUCH better to type on.

-Cheaper service

Unless you live in a more remote area that has better Verizon coverage than Sprint, go with the Evo.

I wouldn't count on it. I don't think Sprint and Verizon phones are compatible with each other's network, even though they all use CDMA.

sprint phones roam on verizons network, so would be difficult to see how the hardware would be "incompatible". i know people bring CDMA equipment from Korea and activate them on verizons network all the time.

Won't work. Motorola Shadow is coming out this summer and will be similar/better than Evo, so if you are stuck with Verizon I'd look at this phone if you are drooling over the Evo.

Personally, I feel the Incredible is better spec'd than the Evo. The only differences would be that the Evo has a front-facing camera and will be able to record in 720p (which the Inc will be able to do after a software update or through rooting). As far as speeds go, the phones should run about the same. The Incredible has 8GB of built-in storage, Evo does not. I also feel like the Evo is almost too big and heavy. 6 ounces is fairly heavy for a phone and since I always have mine in my pockets, the Evo would be a tight fit.

The bands are the same, but Verizon and Sprint usually won't activate the ESN of a type of phone that they don't sell. Sprint may be somewhat tougher on this than Verizon, though.

Shadow is rumored to be 9.9mm thick. I do agree that the battery will most likely be very small, but it is too soon to tell. I'm not saying it will be tons better than the Evo, I'm just saying that since the Evo most likely isn't coming to VZW that the Shadow may be what these people need to look at.

Then again, who likes long waits? I have to wait another 30-some hours for my phone, and I'm still tweaking about it.

I saw the Incredible today and the screen is so damm small compared to the HD2.
You figure 3.7" is pretty large by today's standard but after having the HD2, I just can't go back.
The aspect ratio of the Incredible is like 16:9 vs the HD2 13:8 which makes the HD2 seems even bigger.
EVO all the way people unless you want something thats really light.

You guys forget that Sprint introduced a 30 day money back guarantee so you can try out the Evo and if you don't like it you get ALL your money back. Every cent. Also unless you live in the middle of no where, coverage should be similar but yes Verizon does have better coverage but Sprint is 2nd in the nation. Also you should check to see when your city is getting 4G cus there aren't that many cities that have it yet.

Technically Verizon has an "open" network where they will activate equipment from other carries. That said, good luck getting them to do it. I have seen a couple Diamonds that were activated on VZW before they had them. Sprint will not do it period, if it's not a Sprint branded phone they will not activate it.

I live in Houston, and VZW has better coverage than Sprint...it doesn't take a remote area to show that Sprint is lacking in the coverage department.

AMOLED is better in every way except in sunlight. It's not that hard to use one in sunlight.

I have yet to own a smartphone that didn't suck in the sunlight. The list includes Motorola Q, HTC Diamond, BB Tour, Palm Pre, and HTC Hero. The Tour and the Pre have been the best but far from easy to use in the daylight.

Incredible user here, and I vouch for the awesome screen (coming from a Droid). Like a few others have said I haven't met a phone that is good in direct sunlight, and I don't know of anyone that tries to use their phone for a long period in such conditions. The claims of the screen being "completely unusable" in sunlight are exaggerated.

Problem is I like to actually be able to use my phone when I'm outside... which is a lot. I'll take a screen that is a little worse in non-outdoor use but superior in sunlight any time.

I do find it funny that a thread about EVO vs. Incredible has boiled down to screen vs. screen though. And yes, I know I jumped on the screen competition bandwagon here too.

In cities its really hit or miss. They all have coverage, its just a matter of the dead spots. For example - my old apartment was in downtown Seattle, two blocks from the Space Needle and other major tourist attractions. I got full service from T-Mobile, and 1 bar from Verizon. I'm sure both had "coverage" there. Luck of the draw....

I think it's a pretty safe bet that my phone will be obsolete before Sprint gets half as much "red" on their 4G map than on AT&T's 3G map. Someone please wake me up when its time to switch providers again.

Incredible isn't quite as advanced as the EVO, but VZW has a better network and they'll charge you for it. On the other hand the EVO is better (technically speaking) and you'll have WiMAX if you live in on of the "select markets". Seeing as you've had experience with both networks it shouldn't be too hard to make a decision based on that... but keep in mind that Sprint voice roams on VZW while data doesn't. So if your experience has been with a non data phone you might have been on some VZW towers from time to time that won't provide you with data.

I challenge your assessment that VZWs network is better. They seem to be very on par with each other, in fact I have a trucker friend who gets Sprint service out in the boonies long outside of VZW coverage. (His company uses VZW and he has a Sprint phone that he tethers to get WoW and has had to use his personal cell on more than one occasion to call home base.

I'd seriously consider the EVO if I lived in an area with 4g coverage if not there is no point. Also Sprint has a rough track record when it comes to billing or customer support.

Well duh of course it's going to take time to build up their new 4G infrastructure but the Evo 4G even without 4G is still the killer phone to get. 4G is just icing on the cake.
