It true then Crytek will be rewarded with massive volume sales as their game will be all the more appealing and playable to the millions and millions of consumers out there who have yesterday's GPU in their rig and they aren't interested in spending $200 to upgrade their GPU to DX11 so they can play a $50 game.
The thing is that you should be able to turn down the graphics and get a playable experience on DX9 class hardware but why shouldn't it have DX11 effects for those that have the capable hardware? Crytek is known for pushing the technical boundaries but it doesn't seem like they will live up to that anymore.
And IF they did this in an effort to make the game more playable on consoles then yes I do hope they lose some PC sales at least, regardless of whether it really affects the bottom line or not (as I stated before). In the end I never preordered anyway since I never really cared much for the other Crysis games but it saddens me to see more and more devs going to the consoles.
