It true then Crytek will be rewarded with massive volume sales as their game will be all the more appealing and playable to the millions and millions of consumers out there who have yesterday's GPU in their rig and they aren't interested in spending $200 to upgrade their GPU to DX11 so they can play a $50 game.

The thing is that you should be able to turn down the graphics and get a playable experience on DX9 class hardware but why shouldn't it have DX11 effects for those that have the capable hardware? Crytek is known for pushing the technical boundaries but it doesn't seem like they will live up to that anymore.

And IF they did this in an effort to make the game more playable on consoles then yes I do hope they lose some PC sales at least, regardless of whether it really affects the bottom line or not (as I stated before). In the end I never preordered anyway since I never really cared much for the other Crysis games but it saddens me to see more and more devs going to the consoles.

Good luck waiting for that patch.

Kinda like Two Worlds 2 was supposed to have a DX11 patch.....it's been half a year now. Yeah right.

Well, if it ends up that NV effectively paid $2m for the patch, you can bet that they will be pushing to see it actually delivered.
If not, then who knows, but they did update Farcry with x64 support post-release.

I personally enjoyed both FC and Crysis 1. In fact, when I upgraded from a 6800 to a 8800 I replayed FC. Same with my 260. Go to tweakguides and start setting FarCry settings as high as they will go. It will still make your FPS crawl. I'm replaying Crysis 1 and warhead with the CCC graphics mods right now in fact.

Also, console games are always rated higher. Multiplatform games always get higher scores on the consoles. I don't know if the reviewers are more forgiving or what.

Mass Effect and New Vegas got better reviews on the PC than consoles. I'm sure there are others.

New Vegas got 1 more than the console versions, but both ME games were higher on the 360. I agree the are others, but the vast majority of games are rated higher on consoles.

Hmm. I know gamespot gave it a higher rating by .5 on pc. Ya I know not much, but you know. The average score was only .2 or 2% difference depending on where you go, so I'd call that one a draw.

I was looking at metecritic, both the Critic and user (cough) scores were higher, but a draw is fine.

Consoles have the bar set much lower. Much, much lower.

BC2 uses dx11 really well for shadows and thats about it, and yes, you can tell the difference comparing to dx9 mode. Not huge, but levels with a lot of foliage its clearly better in dx11 mode.

Looking forward to BF3, hopefully it will have some nice joystick support for jets.

I so enjoyed far cry. Hope they can duplicate that. dx11 would be nice, but a very good game would be better.

It's VERY hard to spot the difference side by side. Try it sometime....I have.

Actualy, its very easy. I played the 1st level on the campaign on a 4870, the shadows on the characters and in the jungle were horribly jagged. I played it again with a 5770 and the shadows were much better. It was even more obvious in the cut scenes.

Does anyone ever have anything to say about Far Cry and Crysis other than the graphics?

Neither game was particularly outstanding so I find it quite worrying when people say that it is the very symbol of PC gaming.

Crysis was the graphics standard for a LONG time, but I agree that overall the gameplay was very meh. No all we have is meh gameplay and...more meh gameplay.

Well, in that case, I will wait until the fog clears up, I don't mind if the game is DX9 only, as far as the game is enjoyable, but I think that's because we have set in our minds the fact that Crytek pushes the graphic bar and if they fail on that, the game is a failure.
