US didn't really have any learning issues during ww2 as they did fairly extensive prewar testing & design workups. The main thing lacking that they experienced during the war was non-armored flight decks. They even went with the escourt carriers knowing of their limited capabilities just to inscrease the rate at which they could produce floating airports.

Subdivided flight deck, CO2 use, elevator placement. Angled flight decks after the war. Probably lots of other design detail stuff that doesn't get mentioned.

speaking of $5B carriers, why are we spending $2.5B on aegis missile destroyers?
why not just build another carrier?

Dont forget destroyers as well need to accompany the carriers to defend against submarine threats.

And you need more than one carrier they have to be in rotation for maintenance.

Look like they will eventually have 3 carriers but then down to 2 by 2020....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier_battle_group#Indian_carrier_battle_group

The centrepiece of the Indian carrier battle group is currently the INS Viraat, an updated Centaur-class light carrier originally built for the Royal Navy as HMS Hermes, which was laid down in 1944 and commissioned in 1959. It was purchased by India in 1986. India will commission a second aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya, in 2012 and will follow this with a third carrier, INS Vikrant 2, in 2015. Whilst INS Vikramaditya is a former Soviet Kiev-class aircraft carrier, the Admiral Gorshkov, the Vikrant will be the first indigenous Indian aircraft carrier. India eventually will have 3 Carrier battle groups by 2017 (Viraat, Vikramaditya, Vikrant 2).[8][9]

The Indian Navy's CBG usually consists of two destroyers (usually of the Delhi class, previously Kashins were used) and two or more frigates, (usually a combination of Brahmaputra, Talwar or Shivalik classes) and one support ship.

The keel of the Viraat was laid down in 1944 as the HMS Hermes but not actually completed until 1957 and finally entered service in 1959. After her last refit, she is supposed to be in service until 2020.

The Vikramaditya is expected to enter service on Nov 2013.

It doesn't have a catapult (AFAIK), therefore it's highly limited. STOBAR-only large carriers are way too limited in terms of what they can put in the air when the aircraft needs a good head wind and possibly a 200m run just to get into the air with a decent load.

Meanwhile the catapults on current American and French carriers can send up pretty well loaded aircraft in 100m.

Pentagon's last order for US Army...made in China....

Don't use computers and the Internet. Its invented in the US. Most likely you are also using a smart phone that operates under an iOS or Android...You know these were designed, coded, and released in US&A right?
What exactly ex Soviet block countries did that benefits the world during the last 30,40, 50 years?

I find it hilarious that your medium to lay the hate is totally made in the US and given for FREE to the rest of the world, just like GPS, and many other thing your sorry ass takes for granted every day...

Edit: If you really want to compare the rest of the world to the US, take a look at the US NAVY and compare it with the rest of the world.

Compare with this:

and know that the Chinese have a single aircraft carrier that is a copy of the POS in the link.

A carrier can't defend itself from guided missile attack like an Aegis can.

Think of a carrier as a floating runway and an Aegis as a floating SAM battery.

(20 year old personal experience)

The big deal with Aegis is (...used to be) the extensive networking capability where every compatible ship can "see" everything the rest can. That allows a coordinated defense based on the knowledge of which targets are/can be engaged by which weapons systems on which vessels. Targets may be intelligently prioritized, kill assignments and order set, and the system may also pass control of missiles from one vessel to another. So, for example, if the Destroyer USS "Old Guy" has a... malfunction and can't get the shot off... *giggle* Then the USS "John Holmes" take over and seamlessly tag 'dat Azzz while Old Guy gets some Extacy and Viagra. *laugh*

Anyhow, that kind of stuff was 20 years ago. I'm sure satellites are now in the mix, and a lot of other stuff I never thought of.

It's rare for a US Aircraft Carrier to use its own radars. Radiating is unwise, since the other guy knows exactly where you are long before you can see him.

What good is an aircraft carrier if you cannot protect it from 1980's French anti-ship missiles?

Now, instead of using an expensive fighter jet with expensive missiles their enemies will just buy inexpensive Chinese drones to take it out.

What that guy said, go play some Harpoon, turn your carriers radar on and see how short of a game you have.

The U.S. navy is the greatest navy ever to float! It's more powerful than the next 13
navies combined! The U.S. currently has 19 Aircraft Carriers of which 11 are constantly
in motion.

I'm Canadian and I think Canada should have 2 carriers. We're big enough and rich enough
to do that now.

Canada has only about 35 millions people, which is less than California. The cost of having an aircraft carrier would be prohibitive.

we should just annex the US so they become *our* carriers.

Exactly. Carriers are now the battleships of WW2, overly expensive floating target practice boards good only against shit tier 3rd world nations. If Aegis escorted ones don't exactly stand a chance against conventional missile spam or stealth strikes what chance will India's hunk of steel has.

it is so easy to spot a pakistani...

I'm surprised your prophet hasn't declared internet forums to be un-islamic yet..

Doubt it. I'm not Pakistani or Muslim or anti-India and, yet, I agree with him: It looks stupid.

Though they probably exist, I haven't seen funny-looking sloped decks like that on even the oldest US carriers and it's clear that it's not a modern development or new advanced design.

Either redevelop the 70-year old catapult tech and obtain appropriate aircraft or look funny trying to do it without either.
