Basketball is pretty big in Europe and Asia and baseball is huge in Central and South America.

Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupati are both Indians.

But yeah, we aren't know for our athletics. In fact, we've only won one Olympic Gold Medal so far. Given the population of India, thats quite astounding.

I was in India during the last Olympics and it was pretty funny how proud they were of the one gold medal, their first ever for an individual. That guy could probably line up a governorship somewhere over there.

Basketball is big in South America and Europe. Sydney Olympics, basketball was won by Spain (beating an American team with NBA Players). Baseball is big in Asia, South Korea winning the gold in the Olympics and runner up in the World Baseball Classic while Japan winning the World Baseball Classic twice. Also very popular in the Caribbean region, mainly Dominican Republic and Cuba. You see a lot of latin players in MLB.
