You shouldn't be so judgemental just based on some arbitrary rating system. If you had actually seen the movie you'd know there's nothing in it your sister has to be worried about her kids seeing, other than some sword play and scary swarming ants. Pretty much any action/adventure movie is going to get a PG-13 rating by default.

I took my daughter to see this tonight & while it didn't fully suck it came pretty close ... what a disappointment.

I actually regret spending $15 to see it in the theater & its the first movie I've said that about in a long time.

Quick nitpicks

1.) Way too much CGI usage.
2.) Too much setup for humor, instead of classic Indy one-liners.
3.) Aliens in an Indiana Jones film? Give me a break...
4.) The 3 other ones were somewhat realistic (Temple of Doom could be real) scenes and events, this one was not in any way. 3 waterfalls, nuclear blast, using a snake to get out of quicksand?
5.) The other 3 had real, historical treasures he was searching after (ToD had no treasure really, well if you consider the glowing rocks treasure). This one had no historically accurate treasure at all.
6.) Was made to be a modern action film, instead of a well-built Indiana Jones film.
7.) Indiana Jones getting married
8.) Indiana Jones having a kid
9.) Shia LaBeouf

my $0.09...

4/10 stars

The movie needed to be longer and more detail given and the chemistry between Indiana and his enemies wasn't really there this time. Cate Blanchett did an incredible job, but there wasn't a really good connection between her and Indiana -- or even the plot.

Probably my second to least favorite. I think it is better than Raiders of the Lost Ark, but it doesn't compare to Temple of Doom or the Last Crusade.

pretty much sums up how i felt...plus cgi (especially shia on the vines & going over the waterfalls was ridiculous)

Sadly, I'll have to agree with the negative posters in the thread. I went to see this Friday night with two friends, and all three of us were very underwhelmed.

Count me as another disappointed viewer. The whole movie was dumb, but it got, er, unacceptably dumb once Shia started swinging from the vines with the monkeys. From then on, it got incredibly over-the-top and stupid, and stayed that way.

Watched the movie this afternoon with my wife, and while she loved it, I thought it was merely ok. Like others, I thought the whole alien thing was a bit much, and really didn't fit into the whole Indiana Jones feel. I would've been fine if they left it in the room with the crystal skeletons, but once they came together and you had the stupid, typical looking movie alien come to life, then the stupid, typical looking "flying saucer" fly out of the ground, I think I just rolled my eyes. I would've rather been left with the thought that there were aliens rather than seeing some stupid a-typical presentation of them.

I agree with all the negatives posted, this movie sucked.

Why did I think for a second Lucas was capable of not fucking this up?

I don't think George Lucas or Steven Spielberg should be allowed to make any more movies. They were good 30 years ago, not so much now.

I liked it but some things annoyed me.

-fridge/nuclear blast - I'm cool w the suspension of disbelief but c'mon now.
-swinging through the jungle on the vines
-waterfalls
-the all too obvious special effects during the swordfight/jungle chase

I really didn't mind the alien stuff, the movie took place during the 50's and that's really the height of the flyer saucer obsessions, good way to tie it in to ancient history. I'm thankful it wasn't like Episode I with CGI sets and such but I think they still over did the CGI. I liked the end but I didn't need it all as special effects.

Just came back from seeing it with my wife and daughter. The movie was terrible. I wasn't expecting much. I loved the first 3 movies but I knew this was a retirement money for Harrison Ford so I had low expectation going in. I went because my 5yr daughter wanted to see it. She liked it so that's all it matters. Now she's waiting for the Legos Indiana Jones trilogy game.

Wasn't anyone reminded by the Mcguyver made-for-TV movie?!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110420/

Instead of the mayan/el-dorado, it was atlantis. It also included a very similar line at the end:
"Their treasure was knowledge..."

And the dude who wanted gold was pissed, and died off. haha similar!

Mutt swinging through trees?? Really?? Other than that, was VERY disappointed that Sean Connery died?? WTF?!??! Not even a cameo?? His character really made The Last Crusade... However, Crusade was great regardless. I am honestly still on the fence... I am gonna go see it again... Unitl then... Im going with 6/10... Maybe seeing it again will change my mind..

**Shakes head**....Aliens?? Where the hell is Ripley when you need her?

One of the things that bugged me was the nuclear blast scene - you see dummies on the street standing in place as their faces get melted off, and then the very next scene shows houses being flattened, pavement being ripped apart, and cars flying as the shock wave travels. The TV set in the house was on - why take the time / expense to run electricity to a prop town built way the hell out in the middle of nowhere for the sole purpose of nuclear weapon testing? And... why were they broadcasting an audible countdown for the nuclear blast over said empty prop town? Even if a few people were in there, they were doomed anyways (I'm sorry, but no way anyone survives in a friggin refrigerator).

There were a couple other dumb scenes as well, that were obviously there just for the sake of additional "action" parts (the tarzan thing...come on) or the part where Mutt is standing with one foot on both cars side-by-side and fighting. If you really want him out of the way, have the driver move the car far enough away so he falls...or hit the brakes.

Overall though, I thought it was enjoyable as an unrealistic action flick if you didn't read too much into it and try to analyze the stupid parts.

Speaking of Pirate of the Carribean, that's what this movie reminded me of. There were a bunch of scenes that were just completely and utterly ridiculous and seemed to be there simply to captivate 6 year olds. The jungle-chase scene was good, but the swordfight on top of the two jeeps? I liked it marginally better when Pirates did the exact same scene on top of a water wheel. The criminal overuse of CGI was also present in both movies. I dunno why I'm so determined to compare them, they just seemed like the same movie. Horribly "slick" and "cool" and targeted squarely at 10-13 year olds. Hell at least Pirates had some decently violent scenes in it, Spielberg was apparently in full "walkie talkies instead of shotguns" mode for this movie.

Even then I was pretty down with it, until Mutt started doing a Tarzan impression, as other posters have pointed out. After that it turned from "Pirates" to "The Mummy", complete with "quasi-friend who betrays the main character and then seals his own fate by refusing to vacate a crumbling ancient temple in favor of stealing just a BIT more treasure". Ugh.

The aliens didn't bother me all that much. They're no less believable than a 1,000 year old knight who lives in a room filled with wine glasses or a magical voodoo Shiva-worshipper who can rip people's hearts out from their chest.

I dunno, it'll take me a few days to digest what i just saw...aliens? seriously, that's the best you could come up with? I don't know if that sits well with me. First 1.5 hours = classic genius Indy. Last 30 minutes = oooooooh, look at what ILM can do.

As much as I hate that myth it is a pervasive one among pseudoscience people - especially ones interested in archeology. I thought it was kinda cool - I mean we had the face melting nazis, why not interdimensonal stephen hawking type beings?

The speech on knowledge at the end clenched it though.

that's my problem with it. the first and third seemed to cover real archeology and mythology, stories that actually exist in the literature...for the most part. there was mroe substance in those stories.

this one was:

George Lucas fapping to 50's drag racing greasers and glossy shots

Speilberg and his damn aliens again. man...he loves his aliens....

entertaining, for sure...but more ridiculous than ToD, which is saying a lot...
