National Average Rises on OPEC Curb in Production, Hurricane Matthew Heads for U.S.

The national average has risen 1.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.22 per gallon under threats from OPEC cutting oil production and as Hurricane Matthew heads for the East Coast, according to price-tracker GasBuddy.com.

Gasoline prices are up for the seventh straight day thanks to several main issues: OPEC's decision last week to cut oil production, which caused oil prices to immediately jump 5%, as well as refinery outages scattered around the country.

States seeing the largest weekly increases: Ohio (+ 14 cents), Kentucky (+10 cents), Indiana (+10 cents), Louisiana (+5 cents) and Iowa (+5 cents).

Going down here. Avg price $2.22 pre-election, $2.16 now. Many of the stations near me are down to $2.07. Just bought gas yesterday and, with my 20% off gas card from Publix grocery store and $.15 Winn Dixie fuel perks, I paid $1.50 a gallon. That's all right with me.

The price of oil jumped 4 percent ahead of a meeting of OPEC countries
Benchmark U.S. crude oil rose to its highest price this month. It gained $1.80, or 3.9 percent, to $47.49 a barrel while Brent crude, the international standard, rose $2.04, or 4.4 percent, to $48.90 a barrel in London. That led to gains for energy companies. Marathon Oil added 86 cents, or 5.5 percent, to $16.48 and Exxon Mobil added $1.21, or 1.4 percent, to $86.49.

OPEC representatives will meet in Vienna on Nov. 30. They have agreed to preliminary terms of a deal that will trim oil production

OPEC agreed on Wednesday its first oil output cuts since 2008 after Saudi Arabia accepted "a big hit" on its production and dropped its demand on arch-rival Iran to slash output.

Non-OPEC Russia will also join output reductions for the first time in 15 years to help the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries prop up oil prices.

Brent crude jumped over 9 percent to more than $50 a barrel as Riyadh reached a compromise with Iran and after fast-growing producer Iraq also agreed to curtail its booming output.

Oil prices soar on global producer deal to cut crude output

Oil prices shot to their highest levels since mid-2015 on Monday after OPEC and other producers reached their first deal since 2001 to jointly reduce output in order to rein in oversupply and prop up markets.

It's in the low 1.80s here in Saint Louis. Go across the river into Illinois and the price jumps 30 or 40 cents. One nice thing about being in a loaner car is that I can use regular gas. Premium is pushing $2.10!
