School buses go green, with eco-friendly propane fuel

As schoolchildren around the nation head back to the bus stop in the coming weeks, a number of them may notice a change in their school buses.

A growing number of school districts across the USA are shifting parts of their fleets from diesel fuel to propane to stretch strained budgets and promote cleaner air, according to officials from school districts and from private companies that operate school fleets.

Two school districts in Nebraska — Omaha and Millard — will debut 434 new propane buses, said to be the largest propane school bus fleet in the nation.

Today, many school districts are motivated by the bottom line, Mouw says. "School districts are concerned about costs. Budgets are tight, they're laying people off. They're cutting services," he says. "This is a way to put money back in the district."

8-23-2015 Gas has come down 35 cents from the $1 increase a couple of weeks ago. Most stations in $2.65 to $2.69 now. Rockets and Parachutes

It's amazing to me how you have found a way to complain about rising gas prices continually during a time where the average pump price has declined by somewhere around 40%.

Remember DRIVE FOR FIVE? Now you're complaining about DRIVE FOR $2.65.

What price would make you happy?

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/08/...price-gouging/

Skyrocketing gas prices – caused by a major outage at BP’s refinery in Whiting, Indiana – have drivers griping, and some calling for a price-gouging investigation.

Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com, called the recent spike in prices at the pump one of the worst he’s ever seen.

Prices in the Midwest have soared after BP was forced to shut down one of the three crude distillation units at its refinery in Whiting last week. The refinery is one of the nation’s largest, and the outage has the plant running at less than half its capacity.

While pumping gas at a BP station where a gallon of regular was at $3.69, Dane said he’s “very, very, very skeptical” about the prices, and he thinks gas station owners are taking advantage of the situation to gouge customers.

Prices have gone up as much as $1 per gallon at some stations since the refinery outage.

“You would think it was some catastrophe, or some explosion, or something,” he said. “Not only did it raise by about a dollar overnight, but it sustained it.”

Austin was griping as he filled up his cab on Wednesday. He also suspected price-gouging.

“They should bring it down to like $2.99. It’s too much. We’re trying to survive,” he said.

Officials in Michigan have called for an investigation into possible price gouging, as prices there also have soared.

BP has not released an official timeline for repairs to the damaged distillation unit, but published reports have stated it could take more than a month to fix the 240,000-barrel-per-day unit.

ehhh I hope prices do not drop to much. People never learn and the rise of Hummers 2.0 will not be good. "Gas is down, let me buy a full size truck based SUV to drive to the grocery store by myself..."

The worst is this is the best time to raise the gas tax and congress is dropping the ball.

Unless Congress and/or states will actually use an increase in the gas tax for the intended purpose and keep it out of the general fund; all is being done is to soak the taxpayers.

60% of the federal gas tax goes directly to highways and bridges. The other 40% goes to other transportation expenditures. The fund is depleted badly right now as gas usage is down but people still drive.

When I say raise gas tax I mean federal. Some states could use a raise in it as well but that is a state by state thing.

Refinery shutdowns are pure market manipulation. When a refinery needs maintenance, it doesn't make sense to shut the whole refinery down. It makes a lot more sense to shut down parts of it and fix it section by section. Only in a refinery with a single production pipeline would it make sense to shut the whole refinery down and only the smallest refineries have only a single production pipeline.
