Breaking, SCOTUS to rule on whether a grand jury, and congress (3 cases total) can get access to Trump's financial records. Unfortunately, not until June.

I have a fantasy that Mitch is just trying to placate Trump, hold a sham trial for appearance and then whip his lot to narrowly remove him from office. Trump is way too dangerous if he gets the idea Republican Congressmen won't go to bat for him. Mitch is up for reelection in 2020 too. If I were him I'd be terrified that someone actually loyal to Trump inside and out took his place.

Mitch DGAF. Some of the other GOP Senators might balk at throwing their subpoena power in the trash can though. Mitch? Not so much it seems.

When the mueller report was released and trump and the republicans were able to minimize it the president immediately sought action to influence the 2020 election. How embolden do you think this president will be once he realizes that not even the one thing that can remove a president affects him?

We are playing a very dangerous game here.

I'm hoping that with this impeachment and the Senate Republicans on record, it'll later blow up in their faces, and we'll get another go at it.

IANAL...but I do believe Flynn is about to get fucked, hard, during sentencing.

In a 92-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan ruled against Flynn, offering a point by point rebuttal of his arguments to force prosecutors to release more documents.

"The court summarily disposes of Mr. Flynn’s arguments that the FBI conducted an ambush interview for the purpose of trapping him into making false statements and that the government pressured him to enter a guilty plea," Sullivan wrote. "The record proves otherwise."

Sullivan added: "And it is undisputed that Mr. Flynn not only made those false statements to the FBI agents, but he also made the same false statements to the Vice President and senior White House officials, who, in turn, repeated Mr. Flynn’s false statements to the American people on national television."

Sullivan also cited "ethical concerns" in Flynn's brief, saying his legal team "lifted verbatim portions from a source without attribution."

Sullivan gave him plenty of rope, didn't he? The arrogant fool deserves Sullivan's wrath. Maybe he'll get executive clemency right away, kinda like Scooter Libby. So unfair! Witch hunt! Deep State! Crooked FBI! Blah, blah, blah.

I do believe instant pardon is his only option and will be exercised by Trump to keep Flynn silent.

IIRC, a pardon would remove his 5th amendment rights that protect him from testifying towards the crimes for which he is pardoned--he can not incriminate himself, and so the feds can compel him to testify truthfully, and under threat of perjury.

Not if the sentence is merely commuted. Ask Scooter.

Fox snowflakes out on planned Comey interview.

Comey better enjoy his "victory lap". Lots of mistakes and horribly incompetent leadership at best by Comey.

So what? The takeaway is right here-

Wallace pressed Comey on "Fox News Sunday" on whether the "victory lap" he said the former FBI director had taken since the report's release was justified. While Comey has claimed the report by Justice Department IG Michael Horowitz vindicated the FBI, Horowitz in testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week said that "the activities we found don’t vindicate anybody who touched this."
"Maybe it turns upon how we understand the word," Comey said. "What I mean is the FBI was accused of treason, of illegal spying, of tapping Mr. Trump's wires illegally, of opening an investigation without justification, of being a criminal conspiracy to defeat and then unseat a president. All of that was nonsense."

Comey is right about that part no matter how much Trump says to the contrary.

Did you watch the actual interview, or are you just spouting off?

"Disgraced."

propaganda dreck. Agree or disagree with this sentiment, no literate adult can approach this information without being slapped in the face by obvious shameful bias. You shouldn't read this bullshit. But you probably don't care. You simply don't understand it when you see it.

Yeh, the right wing is trying desperately to spin it into something it's not. Barr sent Horowitz on a mission to justify his illegal spying bullshit. When Horowitz didn't give him that, he took issue with the report & doubled down. And Trump chimed in, charming fellow that he is-

If there's any semblance of the Repubs upholding their oaths of office and their oaths to be impartial at Trump's trial then Trump is burnt toast to be thrown in the trash.

This is the conundrum that every Senate Repub has to face and of which I have absolutely no faith that they will side on the Rule of Law and the facts that point to Trump's guilt as brought forth at the House Inquiry.

I do have this very faint glimmer of hope that I'll be surprised they honored their oaths though.

Trump's guilt is a forgone conclusion as evidenced by the overwhelming factual evidence presented by the Dems and the complete lack of factual evidence coming from Trump's defenders.

The Senate trial should reflect this reality yet it clearly looks like it won't.

And here comes Giuliani saying he needed to get Yovanovitch “out of the way” in order for the Biden scheme to be successful.

Do you think Trump at least had the balls to call her after, and acknowledge “Hey, you’ve had a great career, I thank you for your 30+ years of service, but at the end of the day you’re nothing to me but collateral damage.”

Queue up the defamation lawsuit against Rudy and Trump...

Yea his crap lawyer stole it from an existing SCOTUS brief.

Allow that faint glimmer of hope to fade. Mitch just ruled no witnesses can be called.
