How did I fumble? I asked a question unlike most that proclaim themselves an expert. I wasn't aware of an authorized wiretap on Trump Tower that would have collected the secret communication link. Didn't researchers bring their finding to the attention of the FBI?

How do you not know about the wiretap on Trump tower..

You made a post about it a couple years ago.

Jeez, like we didn't know.

Trump inadvertently admits to obstruction of justice in new Fox News interview | Salon.com

"Don't forget, I fired Comey," Trump bragged. "Had I not fired Comey, you might not be talking to me right now about a beautiful book about four years in the White House, and we'll see about the future. If I didn't fire Comey, they were looking to take down the president of the United States… I don't think could've survived if I didn't fire him."

The Art of the Deal...

If I were a Republican candidate competing for that pool of money to support my campaign expenses, I would be pissed as hell by Trump skimming off those funds for his personal legal battles. Meanwhile, that money isn't going to fight Democratic candidates. Sucks for them. Good for the country.

Paying to cover their own culpability or Trump simply holding them all hostage by threatening to further torpedo the party's prospects? I think it's the former because he cannot help himself when it comes to the latter.

I used to think the Republican party's relationship to Trump was like a bunch of partygoers who reluctantly hop into a drunk friend's car hoping he'll get them home without crashing, and regretting their choice at some point... now, it seems like they're just as oblivious to the danger as their driver.

They are not just oblivious to the danger, they keep handing him another beer.

There is a possibility, that Trump may be indicted first, by....(wait for it)

Just another guy with a microphone, and wishful thinking. Wake me up when Trump is either dragged into a courtroom kicking and screaming, or fitted for an orange jumpsuit. Until that day comes.... yawn.

It's hard to imagine the wheels of justice moving fast enough to get him behind bars before 2024 he dies of old age.
This is more like it. Nothing slows down the wheels of justice like money and power. The truth is Trump will not live long enough to see the end of most of these cases.

On that note, I can't help but wonder what happens with the GOP when Trump dies. It would be naive to think the toxicity Trump created or amplified would simply go away, but so much of the party and its hardcore base has chained itself to Trump that they'll need a serious readjustment to move forward without him.

There's no shortage of lizards waiting to slither into the void that would create. DeSantis, Rand Paul, Ron Johnson, Jim Jordan, Kevin McCarthy. Madison Cawthorn. MTG and the dimwit from CO. Plenty of ghouls in the pipeline.

That is simple. The Fox will anoint a new Jester. The real hope is that the Republican party tears itself apart fighting over the cap 'n' bells. They are definitely the right people to destroy their own party fighting over who is the new party leader. But my guess is that before that happens Murdoch will decide who to support and none of them will have any choice but to fall in line or face a wheezy rant by a slack faced talking head that will blow up their political career.

They are not really chained to Trump, they are chained to his persona, and that can be replicated. It is not really all that hard. All you have to do is always blame someone else for even the slightest perception that you are not perfect, and make any claim of greatness that happens to fall into your head at the time. The goal is to looks like a 10 year old boys idea of a 80's action hero. Just watch Kurt Russell movies from the 80 and act like that.

The talking heads @Fox are convinced that the ‘ Youngkin Strategy ‘ will prevail in 2024 with them winning 40 states because Dems will be focused on trump.

You might be right, but I can't help but think that new jester might not be the savior Fox or the GOP want that person to be. Cruz, Graham et. al. can parrot the talking points, but they can't pretend to "drain the swamp" (since they are the swamp) and certainly won't have Trump's persona. Trump won in 2016 partly because supporters were drawn to the myths of the self-made man (who really inherited daddy's fortune) and tell-it-like-it-is speech (read: lying, but in a very plain way). Simply anointing someone as the Trump substitute won't make them so in the eyes of voters, even if Fox and the GOP think this person fits the bill.

But the whole thrust of this sub-thread revolves around what happens when Trump dies! And given that he's a 75-year-old with very poor health habits, that moment might not be far off.

Step 1: Conservative media blame his death on the vaccine and Biden.
Step 2: Conservative politicians fight over who can out-crazy each other the most, going full racist-fascist, while conservative media praise such racist-fascists as the only true patriots & calling out everyone else as spawn of hell.

So, other than a few news cycles on Step 1, no change at all in this messed up timeline we somehow got stuck in.

He'll be seen as a martyr by Republicans.
Can’t wait to see how the funeral services go. Sadly he’ll get his state funeral. And if covid over by then and they open something up for a public viewing. It’s going to be a clown show

Looks like the $4 million probe-to-nowhere led by John Durham is birthing fresh conspiracies and rumors of indictments again!

I can’t find much in terms of unbiased news sources, but Right Wing News is lit up about “the Clintons” (both?) spying on Trump and trying to infiltrate his servers at Trump Tower and the White House—a crime punishable by death!

Snapping back to reality, the Durham filing seems to equate contracted security researchers investigating DNS traffic between Trump Towers and Alfa Bank with spying. I guess someone needs to explain DNS queries to these guys, because nothing I’ve read indicates an actual breach of the servers in question.

Edit:
A thread by Eric Garland seems to indicate there’s more of an implied conspiracy afoot between Clinton camp/Perkins Coie and Steele that had the net effect of poisoning FISA warrants and establishing a false media narrative on Trump’s ties to Russia (though original intent may have been to embarrass the FBI after “her emails” helped swing the election.)

I guess this merits some attention after all…wingnuts may be right to blast the media if they refuse to cover this.
