1/26: Acting Attorney General Yates warns the White House that Flynn lied to the FBI.
1/27: Trump doesn't fire Flynn, instead asks the head of the FBI to pledge his loyalty to him.
1/30: Trump fires the Acting Attorney General.

Considering what we think we know those are relatively minor crimes. If he was conspiring with foreign powers then the penalties would be far, far harsher. That leaves me with one or two possibilities likely. Either these are preliminary charges and more is to come, or he's flipped for lesser charges and we're looking at a George Papadopoulos scenario. That's most likely I think because Flynn's legal reps broke off communication with others in potential trouble. Flynn is a big fish and I don't think the importance of Mueller charging him coupled with Flynn's plea can be overstated. Well, I hope not, but that's where things seem to stand at the moment.

Which leaves the GOP with more headaches. Trump has approached at least 7 Republicans to kill Congressional investigations. Normally they might choose self interest over Trump when criminal problems for him become a real possibility, however, they are also on the hook to the top fraction of a percent to deliver and not backing Trump at this time becomes a real problem for their tax schemes. They've sold their souls, whatever was left anyway and really have no good direction to run. Does the GOP slit its throat for taxes or live to fight another day and dump Trump? I don't know but I have no sympathy for any of them.

I mean the fucking national security adviser is going to prison (or copping a plea to stay out of prison) for lying to the FBI about his dealings with hostile foreign powers. In any other administration this would be a nuclear level event. This one is so corrupt it will be moved on from in a few days after news of even larger corruption emerges.

Hmm, pleading guilty to only one charge (but a felony I presume), no word of any charges against his son, and to plead guilty on the same day the news cycle is going to be dominated by the GOP tax bill.

Also Mueller has plenty of other fairly obvious and relatively easy charges to bring against both Flynn and his son at this point.

Seems to me to be a pretty safe bet that (a) Flynn has flipped and will be a cooperating witness of real value and (b) The Donald will go into hypermode twit storm this weekend, especially if the Senate doesn't cram through some version of their Xmas gift to billionaires today. I pray they keep the nuclear football away from him somehow, I wouldn't put it beyond Trump that he goes completely off the deep end very soon.

I don't think that in itself is a stake in Trump's heart in itself. What matters is the purpose and content of those conversations. If you haven't read Seth Abramson's tweets I linked to you should. It appears Trump may be clubbed like a baby seal, hopefully before his administration finishes its first year.
