I don't like death penalty, but that apart, the whole duress story is probably bullshit.

I've seen this plenty of time in the news. The drug dealers are often young foreigners, but I remember about 2 arrests in the past years, and it was 50-60 years old swiss women and couples smuggling the drugs. They don't do the small-time road selling but still...
this makes me think it's just an excuse.
Anyway this is why the death penalty is stupid: what if it's not an excuse? You can always release someone from a lifetime sentence. You can't revive killed people though.
This is the main deal-breaker for me, the assumption that the state and the judicial system are perfect. How ignorant has someone to be to not see this fundamental flaw?

If someone says "smuggle drugs into Indonesia or else!"... the correct course of action is to inform the police not try to smuggle $2million worth of drugs into Indonesia

What you said: "Indonesia doesn't have sharia law"

I guess Texas isn't part of the U.S too? Nevermind, let's keep moving the goalposts!

So if say Connecticut decided to go with Sharia Law would that mean the US supported Sharia law? Most Indonesia Muslims oppose Sharia Law, only a select few in one area and only a few select portions of Sharia law are imposed.

Please educate yourself before making blanket statements.

As I recall Aceh province practices sharia law. The province that got it's ass handed to it in the tsunami. At least partially. I think they force all women to wear the headscarf regardless of religion and penalize women for committing adultry pretty heavily. This does violate their constitution. I believe they allow it since they were having some insurgency problems on Sumatra with those people before and allowing them some autonomy gave them peace.

However I've spent a bit longer than a month in Indonesia and although I barely saw a fraction of the whole country I did see a lot. Making a blanket statement about Indonesia being a backwards country that practices Sharia law is a very huge misrepresentation.

I'd highly recommend visiting the country. I can't wait to go back. Just don't eat the street food, don't underestimate the enormous size of the country, and don't smuggle drugs. The rest is pretty amazing.

She won't be executed regardless of guilt anyway. In almost all of the cases I have read about like this one, the person is put on death row, and scared shitless for 3-5 years while their respective state departments work it out quietly.

My guess is that in 3 to 5 years, a small article will appear telling us that a death row Grandma is being released and on her way back to the UK.

Even Saudi Arabia released a Scottish man that was brewing boot leg alcohol in country and selling to princes and commoners alike after being on death row for several years.

The UK is kinda an exception. Their citizens get hosed. Most EU nations bring their citizens home after 10 years or so and that's it. The UK though has a strict policy of their citizens serving half their sentence. Dependso on the country but Thailand is a good example of this. So if you get sentenced to 99 years even if you get brought home after 10 years they'll make you serve the additional 40 years at home.

US citizens have the best deal. We get brought home and released almost immediately.

No expert on any of this but the term you'd want to look up is "prison transfer agreement"

If you are ever in Bangkok you can visit the Bangkok Hilton. Americans all go home. The UK guys are stuck there. It's really sad.

Aceh is the lovely province that is also home to beheading pre-teen christian school girls since they are infidels. Aceh must be home to some truely enlightened people, its the only indonesian province to practice sharia...islamically speaking they are on the right path [realistically speaking they are stuck in 600ad when mo-ham-head was still alive and killing jews].

That was al-Qaida and the police killed one of them and arrested the others. Your example would be like holding New York responsible for the 911 attacks.

Al-qaida is a convenient excuse for anything muslim related. Its easier to blame a boogeyman than it is to say you have a fucked up culture.

It sounds like she was doing it under duress, if that is true, Indonesia should let her go. Of course I don't think forgiveness is in their vocabulary.

Lye with dogs, you pick up fleas.

Less drugs into Australia is a good thing!

Cocaine is a bastard drug, they would of made crack out of this shipment.

So very true my friend, the Zionist control of Hollywood is a piss poor excuse for a real culture- the fact their greatest artists top themselves should speak for itself.

The regret of rebellion from the British Commonwealth is going to build and fester.

Long live the King!

The beheadings took place in Poso, Sulawesi which is an area where there have been many Muslim/Christian conflicts and unrest for decades. The persons responsible belonged to Jemaah Islamiyah (known to be associated with Al Qaeda)
