Honestly, if I was a franchise QB and didn't think I was healthy enough to:

A - Be more than 90% effective
B - Be at risk to be injured early on and be out for the rest of the season

I'd sit myself. Manning is smart enough to know when he'd be a liability to the team.

True. Manning also is RARELY hit, so it's not that easy of a decision I don't think for him...

This year is different. The Colts O-Line is a bit different this year, and hasn't been looking all that great. If I were the coach, I'd *want* Peyton to be 100% or sit.

I'm sure Testaverde is still out there somewhere, waiting for someone to come knocking at his door.

Same for Doug Johnson.

I can't wait until I have grandchildren (if I am lucky enough).
I will sit around at Thanksgiving, watching football, making Favre jokes that no one gets.

What makes you think Farve won't still be playing then?

I love it. Favre retires, the teams throw wheelbarrows of cash at him to convince him to play again...repeat year after year...

I can't blame the guy. He loves playing football...and if they want to give him obscene amounts of cash to play...why not?

While the cash must seem nice, he's also got to keep in mind that his body may not be able to take too many of those nasty hits he keep taking. With all the money he's already made, I think he should walk away while he still can walk, and not end up with lifelong issues like limps etc.

yes, it's very likely the right decision for his health, but he can make whatever decision he wants to make. It's sad to see a season like last season, because when he's on (like his MVP-caliber season prior to last season), he is awesome to watch.

The NFL makes far more drama out of this than does Favre. Thing is, as soon as he takes more than those regular ~6 months off, his body will tell him to quit, I think. He hasn't let it catch up in some 30 years.

I'm all for it -- it is increasingly looking like Manning may miss the opener and maybe even more games. If that happens, what better QB is available than Favre? The only other available QB I can think of who might work out OK would be Bulger, who is also retired.

The Colts' backup QBs suck. Bad. REALLY bad.

Painer deserves a whole new category of word. Bad doesn't do him justice in stinkiness.

Unable to sign favre, and with sources saying it's even more likely the "cut that meat" star will miss at least one game, your opening day started now is the recently retired Kerry Collins.

That's who I've been hearing will be the starter this year....Collins.

And the soap opera continues..........

He's experienced, and cheap. He should fit in well and throw the ball well enough if Manning has to sit.
