Should have gone with Todd.

He really lit it up with the Bears last year.

Collins is like Rex Grossman with a better record--sometimes he's great, he tends to be good enough on a great team, or he can be downright wretched.

At the very least, he has tons of experience, including solid post season experience.

I know it would never happen, but given their major issues at QB and knowing that it wouldn't make the team any worse, I was hoping the 49ers would sign Favre to a one year contract. I'd buy a #4 Niners jersey instantly.

You mean Jeff "Giant Helmet" George?

awesome

The funny thing is that Jeff George probably still has a stronger arm than 70%+ of the starting QBs today.

He lives in (and is from) Indy and he has campaigned over the last few years to get on somewhere as a backup. I don't think the Colts would ever sign him -- they'd keep Painter and lose.

Don't delude yourself, Collins really isn't very good at all. He's somehow lasted for a long time, which gives people the idea that he must be good, but he really isn't. And I don't know what you mean by "good enough." If you mean "good enough" to never win a game that matters, then yes, he's "good enough."

Kerry Collins is like Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, and Johnny Unitas combined compared to Curtis Painter. Really, you can't possibly get any worse than Painter. Hard to believe that just a few short years ago, Painter was being mentioned as a possible first round pick.

I don't know, the Colts using Painter and Orlovsky isn't as bad as it could be. Neither one of them is currently as bad as Cam Newton and the Colts didn't invest a #1 overall pick in them either. Cam might get better over time, but he will never be as good as Manning and Manning will be back before Cam gets good. That means that Indy's current situation with Orlovsky and Painter is better than Carolina's with Cam and Indy's ceiling with Manning is better than Carolina's with Cam.

Agreed. Collins is definitely an upgrade. And that's a scary thought.

so like how Dan Marino was "good enough?"

and Peyton Manning was good enough for the first 9? years of his career?

John Elway was "good enough" for all but his final 2 seasons, as well.

9.8? How is he still a QB in the NFL? How many years does he have under his belt?

This will be his third season IIRC. You can forgive his poor play as a rookie but he has looked awful in just about every other game (mainly preseason) that he has played in.

All of those guys share one thing in common: even though they had blow-ups in big games, they were also the ones responsible for getting their teams to those games. The 2000-2006 don't win as often as they do without Peyton Manning. The Dolphins don't have success without Marino. The Broncos are nothing more than mediocre without Elway.

The 2002 Giants rode their defense to the Super Bowl and watched Collins implode in epic fashion. Sure, he was facing the Ravens, but he posted a QB rating of 7 with 4 INTs. Sorry, but that just plain sucks. I believe that is the single worst QB rating ever in the history of the Super Bowl.

The 2008 Titans were 12-3 with Collins at the helm but only because Chris Johnson ran for 4.9 yards a carrier and combined with LenDale White to put up over 2,000 yards on the ground. Oh, and the Titans defense was pretty darn good too (#2 scoring defense that year).

Collins is not good in any way shape or form. The 2002 Collins was the best we saw and he managed an 85 QB rating during the season. His foray into the playoffs was better than any other year, where he put up 38 points and still lost to the 49ers.

If that's as good as Collins gets (and it is), he isn't very good at all.

All I said was that he's Rex Grossman with more experience, and I meant it.

He's a much better option for the Colts.

this is awesome.

I'll be able to pick up Manning in the last round as a backup QB.
