Inexpensive Pivot [Swivel] Base for 24" TFT?

I really want a 24" *VA [not TN] monitor with the ability to pivot from landscape view to profile view.

I'd be happy to get the Office Max Soyo's, and then put them on VESA-compliant pivot bases, but I can't seem to find any bases which don't cost hundreds of dollars:

http://www.ergoindemand.com/about_VESA_standard.htm

It seems like the pivot base is just a piece of plastic which shouldn't cost much more than $10 or $15 [in quantity].

But the only pivot-base 24" *VA's that I know of [HPQ LV2465, Dell 2407WFP, BenQ FP241W, Samsung 244t] cost $600+, so it seems like you're paying about $350 for that piece of plastic, which just doesn't make any sense to me, especially seeing as how VESA is an industry standard.

So if anyone knows of an outlet for an inexpensive pivot base, or knows of any $600 pivoting *VA monitors which are slashed to $250 on Black Friday, then I'd love to hear about it !!!

I thought that was the resonsibility of the video card.

We use Matrox, which has supported portrait view since forever.

The gateway 24" lcd supports portrait view I believe. It's on clearance now at best buy for 379. I think it's TN though. And yes, portrait mode is the responsibility of the video card.

The Gateway on clearance is not TN. However the model replacing it is TN.

Are you sure about the swivel?

I'm sure because I rotated it myself while I was at the store.

here is a pic: http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/...edia/2006/10/gw_24.jpg

Swivel is not the same thing as portrait rotation. Swivil means left/right motion. Here is a quote from the AT article you link:

"The base stand provides five inches of vertical travel, which gives you a reasonable amount of height adjustment. The stand also allows you to rotate the LCD and use it in portrait mode. While we can't say using a 24" LCD in portrait mode is something we found to be particularly useful, some people might feel otherwise. One of the great things about having such a large LCD is that it gives you the ability to view two documents (or document pages, web pages, etc.) side-by-side with room to spare, making portrait mode largely unnecessary."

Vesa is mounting hole standard for how the holes are spaced. There is no standard for lcd bases or options.

Might work depend on the weight of the LCD (w/o it's included base) and if it can rotate without hitting the desk. You may have to till it back to rotate.

This should work no problem.

The Soyo 24" is under the max weight limit of the both of those mounts (max is 16lbs for the stand/18lbs for the arm, soyo is 13.45lbs which probably includes the soyo base).

Thanks - $49.99 for the Ergotron 33-310-060/33-311-060 is definitely the best price I've seen yet:

rotation animation

If I could snag some of the $249.99 SOYO's at Office Max tomorrow, then I'd be looking at only $300 for fullly rotating *VA 24".
