USB printer to create Network Printer?

It like putting an 8 Track Cassette Player in a 2014 BMW.

Printers' hardware are not standard every manufacture Do its own hardware "Tricks" they compensate for it with the software drivers which are not part of the game when you use a USB port to create a Network printer.

Most of these USB Network Printer's gizmos (in Routers or stand alone) are "Crappy" and maintain very low level of compatibility.

If you do not have a Wireless (or wired) Network printer, it time to get one.

Brother monochrome laserjet printer with wireless, it's $150 or less. Got one a year back after deciding I will never own another inkjet. It's flawless. Inkjets are an amazingly huge scam.

Are the USB ports on these routers usable? I see a lot of repose saying they are not terribly good. I can get away with a $25 entry level n router no problem at all, except I really want to use a USB port for an external drive, hooked up to an IP camera.

They're not fast -- both CPU speed and the USB2 interface limit things -- but I've run them without a hitch on a number of Broadcom-based Tomato routers over time. Use ext3 instead of NTFS for better speed.

Never used Trendnet, but it got some great reviews, supports 802.11ac, and was only $100. I'm a little nervous about it (e.g.: Internal Antennae), but I figure anything is better than the garbage FiOS Actiontec.

My point is Not Ink-Jet vs. Laser.

The point is to get/use a USB printer and Praying that it will work well as a Network printer when plugged to the USB of the Router is "Silly".

Yes the plug on the Routers is called USB and it looks like USB but it Not really functioning as a Good USB port on a Full grown computer.

In the past the price difference between USB Printer and a Network capable printer was significant. These days the Network interface is very inexpensive and thus it is better to get Network capable printer. The the USB on the Router as a spare Slow NAS.

I got icy cold feet after reading their review and seeing the disaster that was the internals of that Trendnet router. I ended up ordering this instead:

Has a better AP and WiFi SoC than the AC66U. It is meant to be the little brother of the AC68U and reviews have been very good aside from its price.... which is why I got it with the $30 MIR.
