"No taxation without representation"

Just ask any minor, convicted felon, or resident of Washington, DC

I thought washinton DC residents got to vote and had a represenative, or do they just have some electoral college votes.

they are awarded 3 electoral votes in presidential elections, but they have no representation in the senate and house (they have non-voting observors, like guam and puerto rico, woohoo). some other lies:

- any tax return by a self-employed person
- the response to "honey, did you orgasm?" (if you have to ask, she didn't)
- "40 acres and a mule" (promised to slaves after the end of the civil war)

a good book to read is "Lies My Teacher Told Me". tells the real truth and what's left out of almost all high school history books.

lies regarding Columbus, Hellen Keller, Hoover, Pilgrims, & much more

example: Columbus did not come to america to find a route to india for spices, etc etc. he came to america because seeking profits in the slave trade

The problem is that soooo many things have been 'put out there' by someone's spin of reality, a strawman.

For example: "No taxation without representation"

To whom are you going to give the credit for this "lie"? Who ever promised "Not one citizen in this country will be taxed without representation"? Nobody said it, nobody promised it, nobody claimed it. So 'no taxation without representation' is hardly a lie.

In fact, the presumptive notion that someone ever promised 'not one citizen in this country will be taxed without representation' is actually a distortion in and of itself.

In order to portray one thing as 'a lie', you have to engage in a bit of deception yourself.

Classic strawman.

If you want to see an accomplished master at this, see Michael Moore.

Further, you have to avoid labeling as 'a lie' things which are quite open to equally credible differences of interpretation.

The old '40 acres and a mule' was not promised and then rescinded by the same person. The promise was made in earnest but by those who didn't possess the ultimate authority to make such a promise in the first place. It was later rescinded by someone else who had the authority but didn't make the promise.

Making a promise in earnest that you later cannot keep for reasons beyond your control is not a lie.

lol! Is this what Howard Zinn is teaching you?

It is not disputed by any serious scholars that Columbus was in fact attempting to find a westerly route to the Asiatic continent. Columbus greatly overestimated the geographical size of the continent of Asia and greatly underestimated the true size of the globe, believing that Asia was the only sizable land mass at the furthest reaches of the earth from Portugal and Spain.

Why it was desirable to find a westerly route to Asia is quite obvious - exploration and trade. Trade of all manners, including slavery. No surprise or shock there. Slavery was the de facto world-wide practice by every culture, including Africans.

Iraqi policemen hold their AK-47 rifles in Baghdad on Saturday to celebrate the "defeat" of a U.S.-led coalition military incursion in the south of the Iraqi capital. Iraqi Information Minister Mohammad al-Sahhaf said in a press conference, the coalition troops had been chased out of Baghdad's international airport.

Make sure you differentiate between a lie and a non-lie. "The world is flat". People really believed this and based on what they knew they thought it to be the truth. "I didn't have sexual relations with that woman" is of course a lie.

LMFAO! That lying commie has no right whatsoever to call himself an "historian". If he wants to read a fictional book on American History, then Zinn's "work" is fine. If he wants legitimate academic works, then I would suggest that he look elsewhere.

Wow. Howard Zinn is a well respected historian, The People's History of America is an amazing book. I don't know where you get your information, but that is simply wrong.

under no circumstances is he "well respected." he is what he is, and it isn't a "historian." i don't know where you get YOUR information, but i would guess Bezerkeley, or close to it. read up on that book, and what academics really think of it. and not at Berkeley. i mean the real world.

I got my information from Ph.D. History professors who hate Zinn's work with a passion because it is, "irresponsible and largely ignorant of facts" as well as being "blatantly and intentionally misleading".

The ONLY people who respect Zinn are the people who share his delusional and communist worldview and who are intent on lying because they have an axe to grind against the supposed "military-industrial establishment". Zinn attracts the same damn fools who think that Michael Moore is capable of intelligent discourse.

Actually, Skoorb, the lie is not "the world is flat," the lie is that our teachers taught us that people used to think that is was. With the horizon only 30 miles away, it is fairly obvious to almost anyone that the earth is NOT flat. And it is well documented that people back to 2,000 B.C knew that it was round. A Greek mathematician in 500 B.C. measured the circumference of the earth (using shadows cast by stones) and was off by less than 500 miles. Columbus and all his contemporaries knew full well that the earth was round. That's lie #1 in my book of what our teachers taught us.
#2 is that the Puritans were refugees seeking freedom from religious persecution. Not true at all. In fact, the Calvinists were on a mission to make everyone else Puritans, by force if necessary. Which is why they were kicked out of England. Religious freedom actually began in 1638 with a Baptist minister in Rhode Island. A corollary of this lie that we were taught in school is that the Puritans were peaceful with the Indians, nothing could be further from the truth. It was the Puritans, in fact, who invented scalping, so that they could prove their kills.

Now, these new lies they are teaching young kids nowadays are even more appalling. Brats, let me be the first to tell you that white people did not invent the slave trade. Get that through your stupid heads.

From the "king of lies", Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf: Basically everything that comes out of his mouth regarding the war is a lie.

"The Iraqi Republican Guard is in control of Baghdad's international airport, having "destroyed" the attacking U.S. force there."

"Coalition forces have not reached Baghdad. "You can go and visit those places" in the city -- "nothing there at all."

"Iraqi forces shot down a coalition plane over Iraq and destroyed seven tanks in Basra."

"Today we slaughtered them in the airport. They are out of Saddam International Airport."

I want to point out that there is a difference between disabling a tank and destroying one. Yes, the US has had tanks disabled, but none destroyed. (They get towed back and repaired)
