in June I had the same thing but on my leg.

I awoke with this whitehead on my forearm that was obviously very deep. Popping it caused me no relief it seemed that it was logged in there. So over the next day it just swelled up and I had flu like symptoms come on until on day 3 I was bedridden with the fever that came during the night on and off. During the day I was just nausea's when I stood so I layed there with body aches and no appitite. From day 3-6 I kept squeezing out the hole with chunks of pus coming out and the hole got purple/black and the skin around it very, very swollen (my whole forearm to my hand) and a dark red and very hot. Day 5 I fever broke and day 5-7 just the remaining ooze from the hole and the arm swelling goes away. Day 8 is peeling skin in that area and all around. Exactly how it happened 5 months ago. What could this be? An infection? I didn't take antibiotics or go to the hospital because I knew it would be like the last time and only last me a few days.

not the recluse. I read the symptoms, and although similar, I dont think that's it. Could it just be an infection, not caused by a bite of any kind?

Doctor??? Any time you have an infection like that, it could be a resistant staph strain, which kills some people. Doctor.

Are you saying I shouldn't try to stick it out for a few days? What do you mean, staph strain? Resistant? How fast should staff go away?

If the area is still red and inflamed I personally would see a doctor. My mom once had a similar infection on her leg, and the doc told her that if she had not come in, she would have had a 50-50 chance of losing the leg.

"hole got purple/black and the skin around it very, very swollen (my whole forearm to my hand) and a dark red and very hot."

These are symptoms of a very serious infection.

no it's not inflamed. It's healing up nicely. It lasted a week. Both times. No doctor, or antibiotics. Simply sleep, rest, OJ, etc. Just like a cold, but with pus coming out of my arm. It never really spreads that far that I would get concerned. I did pull some white sacs out of it, what could those have been. It doesnt sound like staff, since the people with staff have some pretty bad gangrene. Mine was a 1/4'' hole.

Based on the symtpoms you described, I would've sought medical treatment. Those are serious symptoms, and not something I would've played with at all.

everyone says that, but why?! What did people do 150 years ago, before hospitals? Die?

Since it's happened twice already it would be safe to assume that it could happen again. If fact, the cause of the infection may still be present in your body just waiting to manifest itself again in a few months.

I would suggest going to see a doctor even though you got over it. If they can tell you what the cause is then you have a better chance of preventing it in the future.

if this in fact is like shingles or something, something that changed my DNA, then it could be the end of me?!?!

I dunno about that, but being bedridden for any period of time isn't fun. It it were me I'd be using all means at my disposal to prevent a third occurrence. I'd start with seeing a doctor regardless of whether symptoms were still evident.

If it comes back, when you're already fighting a cold or flu, your immune system may be overworked enough to not be able to fight it off. Is that really a risk you want to take?

I dunno. If i'm already sick. I might go to the hospital or something. I'm pretty strong though. Never been in a hospital, never had a check up (not since I was 4) and eat chocolate most nights and never brush, but remain cavity free. Maybe i'm like Bruce Willis in unbreakable... ohplease ohplease ohplease...
